As a conservative who tries his hardest to use critical thinking when possible, this is my number one problem with a lot of other conservatives: They give more credence to people who "use their gut instincts" and aren't products of the supposed "liberal intelligentsia and higher education". Naturally, a lot of libertarians/armchair-economists honestly think they know more about economics than someone who has a Ph.D from MIT and whose research has been held to fairly high regard. He's a "pointy headed intellectual", he's a "bureaucrat", he doesn't know what he's talking about. The worst thing about the Austrians (and I'm excluding Hayek because he wasn't an ass) is that they've convinced a whole slew of people that something which everyone knows is very complex and requires real technical knowledge to understand (economics) actually....doesn't.
