My reaction upon finding that Ron Paul does not support the separation of church and state by JudgeOrlokin atheism

[–]frogmeat 1 point2 points ago

The quote was not about Ron Paul being Christian. It was about Paul's stated position that church and state should not be separate, and that the only goal of the Constitution was to forbid a state religion.

In other words, it is quite appropriate in Paul's view for my tax dollars to be spent promoting religion. I do not consider that in any way appropriate.

That's because creative people owe us the products of their labor for free, but we should be paid to schlep coffee at Starbucks because it's not fun like writing music or making movies is.

probably because he wanted to legalize weed

Bingo.

They never get as far as "he wants to eliminate the EPA, so we can all enjoy Beijing-quality air".

http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul148.html <-- Ron Paul's position, as stated by Ron Paul.

The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers. On the contrary, our Founders' political views were strongly informed by their religious beliefs. Certainly the drafters of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, both replete with references to God, would be aghast at the federal government's hostility to religion. The establishment clause of the First Amendment was simply intended to forbid the creation of an official state church like the Church of England, not to drive religion out of public life.

Nope, he supports the right of the states to have state-wide theocracies.

Which 'part' is that?

The part he referenced when he said this:

"The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers. That part?

Yes, because he's espoused the same positions for decades, just to hopefully draw votes from Rick Santorum now.

Vermin Supreme's emphasis on dental hygiene is in line with my personal convictions. And who else has focused on the need to study time travel? Nobody, that's who!

His religious opinions shape his policies, such as being vehemently pro-life.

He's the guy polling #4 nationally for the Republican Presidential nomination:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/republican_presidential_nomination-1452.html

He took 3rd in Iowa, and 2nd in New Hampshire. Presently polling 3rd in South Carolina.

Which means he's far ahead of Rick Perry.

But at least Obama gives it lip service, so his die-hard supporters can ignore his neglected promise to end religious discrimination in taxpayer-funded social programs.

Apparently at least as hard as it is for you to understand that you don't get to make up your own definitions of words, if you expect others to understand what you mean.

Look around /r/atheism. There are many gnostic atheists; gnosticism isn't the having of knowledge, but the belief that one has or can have knowledge.

You're obviously an agnostic atheist. So am I. But many are not.

[–]frogmeat 1 point2 points ago

I'm quite satisfied with my understanding of atheism and agnosticism, but thanks.

I simply don't accept agnosticism, though I know what it means literally.

Apparently not. You know what you, incorrectly, think it means, or what you think it should mean.

an agnostic atheist 'does not believe any god exists, but doesn't claim to know that no god exists', that's just plain atheism.

No, that's agnostic atheism.

As opposed to gnostic atheism, which asserts that it is a known/knowable fact that no gods exist.

"Agnostic" is the opposite of "gnostic", and "atheist" the opposite of "theist".

"Agnostic" is not somewhere between "atheist" and "theist".

Or maybe you don't know the definitions of "atheist" and "agnostic".

[–]frogmeat 2 points3 points ago

To put it simply, CaptainSausage, I have never seen evidence which supports belief in a deity.

"I can't explain how this happened" is not evidence for belief in a deity. Even if it were, it wouldn't be evidence for belief in any particular deity over any other.

So, please explain why it is you believe in the God of the Bible. Also, could you explain exactly who that god is, and support your positions with Scripture?

I do assume that you have read the Bible, since that is the primary source for information about God, and the only extant documentary source about Jesus.
