It's not a lecture, it's just my area of education. How about trying constructive commenting? He can take it or leave it. I just find it important to put diet into perspective, since it's common to overemphasize its role. If you'd like to talk about cooking, choose one of the other seven comment threads.

Can somebody sell Dancer in the Dark (2000) to me? by ATenaciousDanin TrueFilm

[–]fridgetarian 0 points1 point ago

What you've said is correct. It's just that I think the implication of OP's comments about off-screen dialogue were just that—that they were ineffective. I absolutely have to say though, that I love your shift of focus to the effect—my main complaint nowadays is that a movie fails to affect me in the (to the best of my ability to ascertain) intended manner. This is a problematic measure, however, since not only is my ability to perceive the creator's intent obviously imperfect, but also because the film's effect is dependent on the actual audience (allowing justifications to be later constructed pertaining to its "intended audience").

Yeah, I guess my point is that you don't get levels like his through dietary sources. And, that dietary intake of cholesterol is a much weaker factor in all of this than people realize. At the very minimum this needs to be a three-pronged attack: dietary, physical (increased exercise), and pharmacological.

I'd also recommend discussing daily niacin (daily dose preceded by a 325 mg aspirin to reduce flushing) with his doctor as a dietary supplement to his other treatments. It could also be introduced via his diet.

I spent my day off inside drinking beer and 5-hour energies, wishing I could be out by the pool if it weren't for the rain. I chatted w/ my brother who's traveling around Scotland.

OP, thinks "God damn[ed]" is somehow hypocritically blasphemous. I'd say you'd have to be quite a puritan to find blasphemy in this phrase alone. God damns things, that's just what he does—it's kind of his thing.

That's a job for statins. Diet alone is not responsible for this lab result and changing it will completely will unlikely solve this problem.

sister left sink on while showering, water dripped through the walls, possible damage? by itsjessforshortin fixit

[–]fridgetarian 4 points5 points ago

The damage, if any, will be to any drywall and trim molding. Wooden studs will dry out within a day or two and suffer no consequence. In fact, they probably hadn't enough time to absorb much water at all. Poking a hole in the ceiling a the very spot you hear/heard the dripping is a great way to reduce damage. Place a bucket to catch drips. This lets the water escape downwards and reduces the tendency to puddle and stream across the ceiling. (since you posted 2 hours ago...just save this advice for the future). Run some fans into the vents to speed up the drying process (you also don't want moisture to stick around too long ... think mold). Lastly, keep an eye out for water staining in the walls and ceilings that are beneath the bathroom. Good luck.

Hey, congratulations! You've masterfully fended off each and every point I tried to raise. You officially win the argument.

LCD Monitor Failed - Do these electrolytic caps look bad to you? by cubanjewin electronics

[–]fridgetarian -1 points0 points ago

Find the error and fix it... you mean like in medicine where, as part of the differential diagnosis, when you hear hoofbeats, you look for horses, not zebras (i.e., try cheap and minimally invasive treatments before pursuing the exotic). Or how when you attempt to fix that check engine light or error code, you start replacing the cheapest components and reassess after each? Perhaps this guess and check method seems too crude for you, perhaps you are a master diagnostician with something fancier than a multimeter lying around. Changing bad looking caps is a very rational and measured first step when other information or specialized knowledge is lacking.

LCD Monitor Failed - Do these electrolytic caps look bad to you? by cubanjewin electronics

[–]fridgetarian 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, replacing a few capacitors is a sub-dollar fix. I can hardly say your shrub analogy would be as relatively cheap. Scolding your children? Really, at what cost? Get that wrong enough times and the damage is immeasurable. The intended similarities would be investment of time and energy into things worth preserving. For a few cents more, one can just replace all questionable (yes that's a subjective call) caps and eliminate not knowing if they've chosen correctly. What are the chances the caps are from the same batch? I still don't know what alternative action you are advocating; is it sending the thing to the landfill or to indefinite storage?

I went with the absolute cheapest I could find (and was a little nervous after reading some horrible reviews after ordering). I found my LG Main Board back when it was $69.83 !! Funny how it says "On Sale Now" when it was $93 cheaper three months ago.

I did the same thing recently—main board swap for $70 when the company quoted something like $400 or more for labor, parts, etc. By far, the best part is the amazement of the girlfriend. She green lighted some other (riskier and less successful) projects after that!

Lol, I've actually added RAM to one of my laser printers and noticed an improvement in simultaneously printing multiple very large documents. Sometimes it's the same as laptop RAM, but there's no need for even a single GB.

I guess you value your time. Although, you're in a subreddit full of tinkerers that actually enjoy soldering and to many of us this is actually a great way to spend a few hours—that is, with the hope of rehabilitating a broken device that in any other hands would be sent straight to the landfill. You might also find other breeds of people similar to us "wasting time" on their jalopies, or on their yards, or on their children;)
