The only way we could stop it is if people stop choosing what links to click based on their emotional saliency, which I don't see happening anytime soon.

In just the reddit model? It seems like a problem in communication between emotional beings (humans) in general. The facts of something have to be exaggerated for emotional resonance, so the person will want to read the article or have the conversation or whatever.

Strawman + generalizations = this article. Also, politics is not entirely Republicans vs Democrats. There might be a good point made somewhere in there, but it's engulfed in stupid bullshit.

Me and my friend may come... we're both fairly recent EE grads from Rice, and we're both interested in this type of stuff. Hell, we had a 3 hour conversation yesterday about the relationship between atomic orbital shells and magnetism. Plus we like drinking.

You can watch all 200-some episodes of this series (Happy Chinese Learning): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh_M4Yf9OZY

I'm on like episode 30 and it's been helping me a lot. You sound more advanced than me, but I'm sure the show contains lots you can learn from.

Good for you! If you integrate it in to your day-to-day, that is how you reap the best benefits. Don't be frustrated if that takes years, it's worth it. And remember, the point is the peaceful meditating, not any "doing". You only need the gentlest of pushes to keep you focused on meditating, it's not a complicated ordeal. It just takes time. Best of luck!

I don't know why either of them continue to do those physical movements, because neither of them are doing anything. Maybe it's just more a physical manifestation of the emotional disagreement instead of an actual desire to hurt each other. I feel like Indians do that kind of stuff more than a lot of cultures I've seen
