I bought my wedding dress from China on eBay AMA by feelingkindalurkyin wedding

[–]feelingkindalurky[S] 0 points1 point ago

Those are some good questions. I can't tell you what you're supposed to do, but I can tell you what I did. I just measured myself in a normal bra and undies. However!!! I wish I had measured myself in the bra I was actually going to wear. Therefore, I recommend you measure yourself in everything you're planning on wearing under the dress. The dress I received fit absolutely perfectly when I was wearing just a regular bra. Does this help? If you're really worried, you can pay a seamstress to measure you.

Also, as far as the quality goes, yes it's not the highest quality. I don't know what alfred angelo's quality is, but I think David's Bridal is a good comparison. Also (I can't remember if I mentioned this earlier), but I will need to wear a slip under my dress because the fabric they used on the bottom was a tad see-through. Not a huge deal, but just something I wouldn't have to deal with if I hadn't bought it from China.

Good luck!! For about $100, you can't be too picky ;) It is what it is.

Once you ignore the all the hateful and wrong things the apostles and prophets say and find truth for yourself, it does get better.

These videos make me so sad because although members of the church may be beginning to realize that being gay is not a choice, church leaders and apostles do not realize this. And if, someday, the leaders of the church recognize that being gay is not a choice, it just shows how completely wrong, prejudice, and misguided the apostles truly are. How someone can "know" the church is true and also know that being gay is not a choice and not a sin is beyond me. The logic just does not add up.

How do we get across to people (esp. parents) that we want a private wedding ceremony? by truth_hertzin wedding

As many of us have learned the hard way, don't tell people your plans, especially if your plans are "different". If I were you, I wouldn't tell anyone anything about getting married and just elope one day. Once it's done, it's done and no one can give you crap about it.

I'll believe this when I see some Utah legislative changes. In the mean time, this is just PR mumbo jumbo....

Female missionaries go door to door as well. They are also the only ones who serve missions at temple sites. (sexism at its finest)

Why is there a 4K difference in these engagement rings? by advocatelin wedding

[–]feelingkindalurky 1 point2 points ago

Came here to say this. That is the exact reason. If you imagine a real diamond shape, you can cut it in half and get two princess diamonds, whereas you can only get one round diamond from that same stone.

Jewel-fox, you've got some real anger in you. I hope we can all remember that we choose who ruins our life and who doesn't. It's all about your attitude. You want to feel like the LDS church is still running your life and hate them for what they've done, that's on you, not the church.

And in case you don't live in Utah, Mormons do own Utah currently. Just look at the makeup of the current legislator--Mormon. I live in Utah and just try to have the best attitude possible about everything. I get to go to awesome state and national parks, enjoy a good microbrew downtown, and get a pretty darn good education while I'm at it. I have chosen happiness for myself and would recommend everyone do the same. Forget the church and start living your life.

I agree. Since graduating, I've gone to campus a couple times, including the library, wearing a tank top (no sleeves!). No one ever said anything. I guess it just depends how "holier than thou" someone is feeling that day...

Other Christians sometimes consider Mormons as not true Christians because Mormons believe God, Jesus and the Spirit are three separate personages, whereas most "Christians" believe they are all one deity. r/exmormon

I'm not sure if the eBay company I used takes requests, but it's worth a shot! (I know a lot of other Chinese companies do.) I bought the dress for about $168 - $30 (refund b/c of zipper) + $15 (new sash I made myself) + $6 (new zipper, my mom is sewing it in) = $159. Not a bad deal if you ask me!

The lace was actually pretty nice. It is definitely a lesser quality than designer lace, but it was as beautiful as the picture. I would compare it to the quality of many David's Bridal's dresses. It's nice, but not couture. The dress doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart or anything. However, as I mentioned in a previous post, the buttons on the back were all sewn on with one piece of thread (a little precarious) and the zipper was cheap and needed to be replaced upon arrival. If you are looking for something high quality, I would not recommend getting your dress on eBay from China :). However, if you just want something that is inexpensive, will last a day and looks nice, I would go for it. The company I bought my dress from was definitely trying to do their best and had great customer service.

Well, these eBay Chinese wedding dresses are usually just knock-offs of designer dresses. Although some wedding dress companies get their dresses made in China, and I've heard of some factories selling these designer dresses on their own at a discounted price, I think this is rare. I originally went to a bridal shop to see what kind of style I liked. Then I tried to find something for much less money online. Amazingly, the dress fits very well for just measuring myself and giving the eBay dress company my measurements. I won't be making any alterations fitting-wise.

The buying process was fairly simple. It was obvious that they do this all the time. Yeah, their English is definitely not the best, but easy enough to understand. Every one of their emails started with "Hello Friend", which made me feel good :). I did everything via eBay and email. The quality is definitely not great. After trying on dresses that were $2000-$10,000, you can certainly tell a difference. However, the dress is still beautiful and to the naked eye, you wouldn't guess that I bought it from China on eBay.

One of the things I changed was the sash. They sent a satin sash with cheesy plastic flowers glued to it. I ended up making some of my own ribbon flowers (by following YouTube instruction videos) and created a beautiful sash from satin ribbon. That made the dress look A LOT better. Also, the zipper it came with was super cheap, so I'm getting that replaced. Also, the buttons down the back are all sewed on using one piece of thread continuously, so if one piece of the thread tears, ALL the buttons will fall off. The last thing was that the boning in the dress was too long and I'll have to go in through the hem at the bottom to cut part of it off. So although I'm saving a couple thousand dollars, I am having to make slight alterations to the dress... Luckily the company did refund me $30 when I told them about the faulty zipper.
