Aerobatics and Tail Wheel Flying Question. by eigenmanin flying

[–]eigenman[S] 0 points1 point ago

Well I haven't officially looked yet. The last time I inquired someone claimed KLMO had a couple instructors and they had they Citabria and Decathalon for rent. I'll need to get a tail wheel endorsement from a CFI.
I didn't know you could just learn maneuvers from a non CFI and then get checked out for aerobatics. I assumed owners who would rent to me would want to see that CFI endorsement.

ahh good idea! thx

EDIT: Looks like the Sterling event was May 5. Funny thing is I know the owner of that Buker on the front page. Flies out of KLMO. But that site is good start. I'll contact some ppl via that site.

Ah yes over speed would lead me to believe you would want a CS prop so that seems to be a big difference between Citabria and Decathalon. I never used the CS prop in Cessna 182RG much so I never really understood why you would need it except maybe for fuel efficiency? But an aerobatic plane will be diving and climbing and thus changing the airflow over the prop constantly so I would think a CS prop would be extremely important. thx

I know exactly who you are talking about. I considered him but he doesn't let anybody else fly his plane! I know he gives the CFIs spin training and will train aerobatics but I would like to rent the plane I train in. Also I'm a bit turned off by all the traffic at KBJC. I've flown there for most of my time as a private pilot and I've had quite a few close encounters in the pattern. I'd rather go out to one of the smaller fields with less traffic so I can concentrate on flying the airplane more without worrying about collisions.

I haven't looked into it yet but I heard there was a guy who would train in a Citabria or Decathalon and you could also rent those planes at (KLMO) although I have to admit that area is pretty trafficy too.

Aerobatics and Tail Wheel Flying Question. by eigenmanin flying

If they fly the same then I would prefer the more powerful engine even if it costs a bit more. Continuous speed prop doesn't bother me. I can always leave it cranked to highest RPMs I would think so it's a non factor for aerobatic maneuvers right?

Landings would worry me the most. I see plenty of vids of ground loops heh. I understand that learning to land a tail dragger is one of the toughest things to master so if there are more forgiving dynamics for landing then I would factor that in as well. Which is more forgiving when landing normal? Crosswind? etc...

So would you say the Citabria is a better beginner aircraft? That matters as much as the money. Forgiving is good!!

[–]eigenman[S] 0 points1 point ago

Ok this is a good list and well ordered. Money matters. I would like to train in the type of plane that I could rent. I've seen some instructors who offer Citabria and Super Decathelon. Someone else told me to go with the Decathelon because it climbs faster so you spend more time doing maneuvers rather than climbing when compared with Citabria. Does that sound right?

Well ya that's why I asked for advice on aerobatics and not acrobatics but thx. :)

which airplane to get checked out? by wassupdude82in flying

The 182 I fly also has a retractable gear so might need complex endorsement as well.

Hi guys, I could use some uplift.. by badday101in flying

[–]eigenman 0 points1 point ago

Happened to me on my second solo landing. Came in too steep and ballooned on the first bounce. Didn't know how to handle a balloon and I banged up the nose gear and nicked the prop on the second and third bounces. Make sure you have insurance!!! Can't stress that enough.

After that I was pretty good at handling a balloon. Give it some power on the bounce and if there's plenty of runway you should be good to land. I got a "good job" from an instructor who forced a balloon on me as a test. I just added some power and it smoothed right out.

FB IPO live chat now by StockJock-ein StockMarket

[–]eigenman 0 points1 point ago

Didn't make a whole lot but it's better than a loss. I bought at the open at $42. Waited for it to play out till it got to about 38.60 and averaged down to 40.38. Later sold on the second time it got around 41.65.

Meh I was hoping for more but Nasdaq screwed up the IPO somehow so many trades were unconfirmed and so it just didn't take off like it should have.

FB trading at $38. The IPO value right now. heh.

I managed to make a few hundred on a quick trade today once I realized this thing wasn't going anywhere.

Facebook IPO is Overvalued say us losers who are not issued pre-ipo shares by StockJock-ein StockMarket

[–]eigenman 0 points1 point ago

It's obviously overvalued but that won't stop people from buying the shares and driving up the pps in the short term at least. I plan to buy some which I normally don't do for ipos but I don't plan to hold it very long. If I get 20-30% I'll probably take that profit.

It's up in after hours on the loan news. I'm not entirely convinced this is all that good as it does add debt but I get the feeling it will be up at the open Monday.

This. Whatever was first in the queue gets the price. For example if I sell at a limit of 3 and there are no bids >= 3 that sets the ask to 3 and that sits in the queue until a buyer comes or a better ask is placed lower than mine. If you then come in and buy with a limit of 4 you'll buy my shares at 3 because I was in the queue already with the best ask. Thus the trade in this case was done at 3.

I've had good success using peer guardian. It blocks all the known trouble makers like RIAA from connecting to you're machine. I assume PeerBlock works the same way.
