DAE Get pissed off when Barack is referred to as "Mr. Obama?" by cwoin DAE
[–]dwm1129 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
It's standard practice to first refer to the president as President "So and So", then have secondary references as Mr. "So and So". It's been that way for the last 50 years.

Your Camera Just Insulted My Family by WisestCrackerin funny
I would argue that making fun of Asian people's "squinty" eye's is very racist. It serves to belittle their race and make the joke teller feel racially superior, just like a bully!

But it makes me feel superior to make fun of other ethnic groups physical features and pass it off as comedy.

Making fun of Asian people is funny! Who wants to do blacks next?

Musician here, same number of weddings and have never seen that. The level of awkwardness this would create would be off the charts though. I don't think I remember hearing this question asked in many ceremonies either.
Vegan and Pro-Choice? by dwm1129in vegan
[–]dwm1129[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
Right, most late term abortions are performed because the fetus has little chance for survival has complications or the mother's health is at risk.
Source for that? After 25 weeks a majority of fetuses can survive on their own and 50% is considered viable. Do you feel your pro-choice position still fits with your veganism?
Conflicting rights can be equal, I think it's a fallacy to say otherwise. A fetus has a natural right, a right provided to it by nature to live and the mother has a natural right to live as well. Someone's rights are violated in order to protect someone else.
You can search for the journal articles but it is generally agreed that between 20-28 weeks a fetus will feel pain.

Okay so this is when a fetus can survive without it's mother.

What does your reply have to do with my question? A 2 week old fetus and a 25 week old fetus are not comparable.
Yes, it doesn't affect our life really but poses any interesting question.
You don't find any type of conflict in believing that killing animals is wrong, but a late term abortion where the fetus has just as much cognition and sentience as animal is right?
I feel that our principals should be somewhat homogeneous and consistent and conflict with each other as little as possible.
Do you see any conflict with these two positions? I feel I might. I posted a couple times below and would be curious to know others opinions.
[–]dwm1129[S] -3 points-2 points-1 points 1 year ago
A fetus at 25 weeks is a sentient being that can feel pain, does it not have rights?. How is killing that any different than killing an animal? There is a level of cognitive dissonance present in the two views. Would you argue that it would be in error to be a hunter yet pro-life?
I wrote out text in my submission but it didn't post. Weird.
I'm a vegan and Pro-choice, but I do see some conflicts with the two stances. Anyways I've always been pro-choice, it's a woman's right to decide the fate of her fetus. But, is it right to kill a fetus that has reached a stage of sentience and cognitive capabilities that reach or surpass those of animals? Why do we protest the inhumane treatment of animals, but think it's okay to kill a fetus that can feel pain at 25 weeks? I understand that the fetuses right's infringes on the mother's right's and vice versa, but does that make it ethical?
