What did school teach you that was blatantly false once you researched it on the Internet? by peetssin AskReddit

[–]dopelists 1 point2 points ago

It opens the doors to a number of diverse and interesting fields that aren't as easily accessible with an English degree. For example, I know a couple people who went on to earn Master's degrees and PhD's, and became teachers and university professors. Others have been elected to public office or worked for political campaigns. I've successfully held careers in broadcasting and business. It really just depends on what you're interested in.

No offense, but your spelling and grammar mistakes suggest you didn't graduate near the top of your class either. Unfortunately that undermines the credibility of your assertion.

Fatal? No. But you'll be far more likely to be accepted into a good law school if you switch to Political Science. You'll also probably enjoy it because it's still a lot of reading, but in addition you'll take political theory and introductory law classes. I speak from experience.

I see you capitalized the letter "G" in the word "gay". So I'm bi-curious, what's the difference between Gay and gay?

Ever gone back to school? by silaswasherein AskReddit

Sounds like it's time for you to polish your resume and start doing informational interviews with people who work at companies in your fields of interest. Ask them for advice about what they'd do in your situation and just listen to them for 20-30 minutes.

Good news is that someone, somewhere, will most likely be aware of a position that fits your interests perfectly, and will probably be willing to put your resume in front of a hiring manager. Don't ask straight away for a job, but instead let them volunteer it.

Good companies try to hire people with enthusiasm that are willing to learn, rather than people with the exact skills they need but no enthusiasm. Companies can train people for new skills all day, but they can't train enthusiasm.

First question is: why?

Consider the opportunity cost and the actual cost, then decide whether the degree you're going to earn is financially worth it.

If it's financially worth it, then do it! If not, then there are still other legitimate reasons to earn a second degree, so consider those too.

Sounds like your personality is that of Beta male. It's a very good personality to have, but is rather uncommon. Therefore your feeling of it being illogical is understandable, while in fact you are what's right with the world, and the back-stabbers are what's wrong.

There is some risk that a Beta male might slip into the forever-alone category, but it sounds like you've already addressed that risk with appropriate safeguards.

Hey reddit, how can I convince my 87 year old grandfather not to take 5 Hour Energy shots? by IPromiseImHumanin AskReddit

Rockstar/sugar free Rockstar and similar drinks are full of things that aren't good for you. 5 hour energy, on the other hand, is a lot better for you

Hey reddit, how can I convince my 87 year old grandfather not to take 5 Hour Energy shots? by IPromiseImHumanin AskReddit

[–]dopelists 2 points3 points ago

How do you "know" that it can't be good for him?

I'm not a doctor, but I use 5 hour energy shots quite a bit. Normally one at breakfast, and one at lunch, and sometimes if I had to stay up late the night before and only had a few hours of sleep, then occasionally I have up to 4 in one day. Each one is about equivalent to the caffeine in a cup of coffee, and the B vitamins actually help speed up metabolism and aid with weight loss. So, it might actually be helping him.

All that in mind, it's important that he eats a healthy diet, avoids excess sugar and alcohol, and gets as much physical activity as possible.

Reddit, I'm a lost 19 year old who needs advice, do i continue community college or go to a university? by throwaway0029in AskReddit

[–]dopelists 0 points1 point ago

I admire your optimism. Just a few years ago, I thought the same thing. If only it were actually true that everything will work out if you become a savant in your hobby. Then I graduated and entered the working world.

In reality, 53% of graduates are jobless or underemployed, because they followed their hearts and got liberal arts degrees hoping that everything would work out. The problem is that those degrees just aren't all that useful. However, those with nursing, teaching, accounting (and business), and computer science degrees are doing well. In Texas, for example, the unemployment rate for C#.NET developers is only 2.5%, and average salaries are $80k-$100k/year.

You don't need a car in college. Plenty of people are happy without college degrees, but you have the rare privilege of having a college fund available to you, which tells me you come from a decently wealthy family, so you would be foolish not to use it. And yes, to live the comfortable lifestyle you're most likely accustomed to, you need at least a BA degree to earn a decent living.

Step 1: Daydream about what you would do with your life in an ideal world, and then write that down as a goal. This becomes your "Why?" for everything that you do.

Step 2: Stay at community college and get as many pre-requisites completed while you apply to various universities that offer degrees that will help you towards that goal. Avoid debt. I recently graduated from a premiere state university ranked in the top 10 in the nation, and only spent about $30,000. I didn't have any financial help from anyone, but I worked a part time job and paid cash for school, and am 100% debt free. Now I have an awesome job, cash in the bank, and I drive a Mercedes that I own outright. You'll have all of this, and more.

Step 3: Profit.

On first read, I thought the headline said that a lawyer agreed to buy ladies' fat.

Then I noticed the thumbnail has a picture of a referee, and I thought, how in the world does this headline have anything to do with sports?

Reddit, what is it like to be a white person? by redbullandvodka0in AskReddit

[–]dopelists 0 points1 point ago

The show Black. White. was an interesting look into what it's like to be a different race.

Many people think that anything that a white person does that is in any way negative towards a non-white person is a racist act, regardless of whether or not that was their motivation, while at the same time thinking that it's impossible for a non-white person to be racist.

This therefore gives non-white people carte-blanche to do whatever they want to white people, even if it is racially motivated, and not face the same social stigma and consequences for their actions. It's interesting that you mentioned that some black men don't like black women's facial features and hair. Men who think this way are in fact racist.

So, would your life be easier and better if you were white? Not necessarily. God created you in his image, completely beautiful, and entirely worthy of love. And God don't make no junk!

Almost positive my roommate's GF is cheating on him, what do I do? by yo_yo_throwawayin AskReddit

[–]dopelists 0 points1 point ago

Your old girlfriend was dating a guy she was in love with, and he told you he loved you? So, not only were you okay with your girlfriend cheating on you, but in fact the guy she was cheating on you with was actually gay and was attracted to you. That is a legitimate love triangle.

Why won't airlines put all children in a section at the front of the plane, to improve the travel experience for all the other 90+% of passengers? by Old_Gregggin AskReddit

[–]dopelists 0 points1 point ago*

Well, the other way around and it actually might work. You see, the front of the plane is the quietest because it's in front of the engines, so that's where the adults should sit, and is also closest to the front door so it's faster to get on/off. This is why First/Business Class is up front. The children should sit at the back of the plane because they're so noisy anyway that they won't notice the engine noise.

Edit: Unsure why I was downvoted. What I said is factually true, and I'm a frequent flyer so I know what I'm talking about.

what statistic would you like to appear above everybody's head? by spencerbrosephin AskReddit

[–]dopelists 0 points1 point ago

I call this statistic the "winner meter", which is the percentage of likelihood that we will generally agree and enjoy each other's company, as well as the willingness and likelihood of success if we were to team up and tackle challenges in business, sports, life, etc.

What are people's thoughts on illegally downloading music? by jholds1000in Music

[–]dopelists 1 point2 points ago

Nope, not at all. In fact that is perhaps more ethical than buying it, because through YouTube's VEVO service, artists are paid a royalty from YouTube's advertising for every play, so artists have the potential in the long run to earn more money on their creations than if you were to pay to buy it once.

Looks like you're out to lunch at the moment, because if all of the facets of the economy were planned by a super computer, and all the people throughout the world followed its edicts to the letter, then no human factors would affect it. Have a good lunch!
