I bet there aren't many non-biased sources for this sort of information. My experience is only anecdotal, but none of the call girls I knew of seemed desperate or coerced, in fact they seemed pretty well off.

I'm sure there is some coercion involved in the pimp/ho relationship but the whole point of the craiglist adult section is that that relationship is being phased out because CL takes the place of the middleman. You now mostly have consenting adults, and if a consenting adult isn't being coerced by a pimp, then it is voluntary.

Why is it that you consider all sex workers slaves? In a legal market a prostitute would have legal recourse if they felt they were being abused. This is much less doable in a black market. I don't see where the slavery comes in.

Sounds like it is time for a new compensation scheme. Most of the artists I like do not pay a lot of money for producers or engineers, half the time they are the producer anyways. One possible step is to include those people in the bands. I know of several bands with an in-house "producer" that does remixes on the side.

Treating economics like science is how we got into this mess. All of the quants with their fancy math formulas and massive assumptions turned out to be totally wrong on the risk issue. Economics is not a science, and does not really benefit from being treated like one. It is closer to sociology or psychology in its theories and efficacy of results.

When you join the military you run a high risk of being killed. It is totally legal. So I don't really understand your argument. Some jobs are dangerous, which is usually reflected in higher pay. That is why we still have miners and loggers, both very high risk jobs that are legal.
