Google and Facebook remove content in India, Is this the beginning of the end? by haemoglobinmanin technology

[–]djrocksteady 0 points1 point ago

It would fix things because the Indian people would start to notice that the big companies won't work with them until they make some changes. This would motivate the populace to push for reform.

They pulled out of China for many of the same reasons, why would they make an exception for India?

They do not have to do business in those countries.

You are forgetting that to speak out against Obama, all you need is the truth. The things they say about Ron Paul aren't true half the time.

Austrian investment strategies? by djrocksteadyin austrian_economics

[–]djrocksteady[S] 0 points1 point ago

my opinion that a period if high inflation lingers on the horizon

I agree with this assumption, and I am preparing for it in the way that you mentioned. I am just looking for things other than the normal, easy ones that everyone is doing. Having enough supplies is a good idea to survive, but it isn't really an investment. Warehousing the supplies would cost almost as much as I would make in the future.

Everyone in this thread is concentrating on storing value, which I am already doing. I am looking for investments, where I can find profit sooner than later (long term mindset with extra money for short-term speculating). I am not necessarily looking for companies, I am looking for ways to profit from how I think the future will play out - which is a fairly unique viewpoint among investors.

Koch brothers driving anti-Obama hate machine by unclefredin politics

[–]djrocksteady 0 points1 point ago

They both had a wide range of things they support.

David Koch, who is still receiving treatment for prostate cancer has donated $120 million to cancer research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, $40 million to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, $100 million to renovating New York City Ballet and Opera Theater, and $20 million to the American Museum of Natural History, among other donations.

Gates yes. Soros and Buffet, you have got be fucking kidding. Buffett made like $20 billion off Goldman Sachs getting bailed out. These people know who can help them, don't be so naive.

Koch brothers driving anti-Obama hate machine by unclefredin politics

[–]djrocksteady 0 points1 point ago

Uh, keep telling yourself that.

But it's because of their political activity that the brothers Koch have recently gained notoriety. Together, they're probably the nation's biggest political donors. Nobody else -- not George Soros, not Bill Gates, not even Sheldon Adelson -- comes close.

From opensecrets.org

VERDICT: Given the difficultly in tracking donations to nonprofits and charitable organizations, it's almost impossible to quantify whether the Koch brothers or Soros dominate this political realm. That said, both the Kochs and Soros have spent incredible riches in this area with no sign of stopping.

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2010/09/opensecrets-battle---koch-brothers.html

2 minutes of research would have allowed the author to make that statement factually correct, but a partisan agenda was more important. Almost all reporting about the Koch's, and Soros for that matter is biased. Just about every news agency has obvious and noticeable biases, if you know what to look for.

Austrian investment strategies? by djrocksteadyin austrian_economics

So would I have to get started in some futures trading to start speculating on rice? My etrade account currently doesn't have that option.

Austrian investment strategies? by djrocksteadyin austrian_economics

[–]djrocksteady[S] 0 points1 point ago

Ok, so the devaluing dollar will drive the value of these items up, makes sense to me. I am going to check out SIL, would be good to get some mining companies in there.

What I am looking for are trading strategies that take this future devaluation into account. We all know that precious metals gain value through this, but what are other ways to profit from this mindset?

I know Schiff advocates getting into stable foreign currency markets and foreign stocks as a way to hedge against a collapsing dollar, I am wondering if anyone has had any success with any other Austrian strategies. I am pretty much on board with the stockpiling and precious metals, I am looking for other ways to approach the situation.

January U.S. jobs rise 243,000; jobless rate 8.3% by TheGhostOfNoLibsin Economics

Which has been conveniently excluded from every report I've seen on the jobs numbers. Looks like the media machine is gearing up for the Obama 2012 campaign.

Hands down one of the greatest DJs of all time - The Executioner - Andy C - does it on 3 decks! by Lucid_Nonsensein DJs

[–]djrocksteady 2 points3 points ago

Also, drum n bass has its own style of DJ'ing, backspins and platter touching are an integral part of it. Another thing Andy C used to do all the time was the "double drop", where you line up two drops in the same key and EQ it into a new melody line...It doesn't seem like the guy above is familiar with this scene.

This guy has been a huge influence on me, I am always surprised he doesn't get more credit for being one of the most amazing DJ's...What has he been up to lately? I saw him a bunch of times around 2003-2006.

My coworker has been making music for over 20 years, I just left his show and I was the only person in the audience... can you give him some love Reddit? by Skeltenin Music

Give nothing away for free. It never leads anywhere.

It kind of worked for Skrillex.

After releasing the My Name is Skrillex EP for free download on his official MySpace page

One of those things where, if you are good, giving it away doesn't matter because you can make money later..you need the popularity first.

Study reveals almost complete Ron Paul media blackout in Florida by emazurin Libertarian

[–]djrocksteady -1 points0 points ago*

They never did. The "objective" period of journalism, which I place from Post WWII to the early 90's before cable television - was never objective. Their "objectivity" was a shroud designed to distract from the fact that people were getting their information from one or two sources...the "objectivity" was to make it look less like propaganda, even though it certainly was. Think of how many covert government operations went on during that period without a peep from the media.

Neil Young: "Piracy is the new radio. That's how music gets around...That's the radio. If you really want to hear it, let's make it available, let them hear it" by nomdewebin Music

[–]djrocksteady 0 points1 point ago

No revenue.

Also, no cost. Radio stations required lots of money and resources to run, and many times labels had to pay off DJ's to get their music played. Radio was still subject to control of the major labels. With piracy, the good music is promoted and propagated and the revenue comes in other ways.

Bing, mapquest and yahoo are not out of business. Providing an API is not some of of human right. Plenty of competitors out there to fill the void.

Free Market Provides An Incredible Product For Free, Gov't Says It's Illegal (xpost from r/Technology) by charlie_pin Libertarian

[–]djrocksteady 7 points8 points ago

Google sees this and decides to drop their price down to free again. In addition, they also lower advertising costs, making their site more appealing to businesses to advertise on. Suddenly, my competitive advantage of being free is gone.

That is exactly how competition is supposed to work. The new service has to come up with a feature that distinguishes them from the competition. It may be difficult, but that is why the rewards go to those who take big risks. This is exactly why most companies don't like the free market, because it makes their jobs difficult by forcing them to innovate.
