There are a lot of brave, compassionate, and inspiring men that are priests

Yet they still believe in religious bullshit :/

I feel almost like a real scientist. My first publication, in a review on climate change and aquaculture. by erin132in science

As someone with a bit of publications (just 8, plus a few book chapters) I can tell you that the thrill is always there when you publish a new paper. You will never get numb to it (well, unless you become some sort of high level PI whose group churns dozens of papers a year). Kudos, congratulations and keep the good work going!

I've never met someone worshipping Bill Gates, honestly.

I don't think you understand what hipster means.

From Wikipedia:

Hipster is a term frequently used to refer to a subculture of young, recently settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers. Usage of the term reappeared in the 1990s and persists to the present. The subculture is associated with independent music, a varied non-mainstream fashion sensibility, and alternative lifestyles. Interests in media would include independent film, magazines such as Vice and Clash, and websites like Pitchfork Media.[1]

Which are also 95% Apple users, and cried like their mom died when Jobs finally left the planet.

I hesitated getting Ubuntu Linux because Linux tend to hate people who don't know everything about computers

This is absolutely not true. The Linux community hates people who don't want to learn about computers and their system.

What's funny is I never see anything on FB or twitter from an apple fan

You are lucky. The massive hipster mourning when Jobs died was terrible, terrible.

What hard truth does Reddit need to hear? by TheJungleVIPin AskReddit

[–]devicerandom -1 points0 points ago

Because I think the assertion that there is no God, period, and none can possibly exist is absolutely nonsensical in every sense of the word.

I am sorry that you think wrong things. (Edit: To be clear, of course there can't be absolute certainity of god's non-existence, like you can't be absolutely certain that invisible dark matter dragons aren't frolicking on my computer keyboard. Yet both assertions go into the "so-improbable-it's-not-worth-even-discussing" bin).

What are the most intellectually stimulating websites you know of? I'll start. by ibleedblu7in AskReddit

Often, not always, people interpret as "patronizing" when someone actually tries to teach something. It's like people don't like to be feel ignorant -only they are (like I am, like everybody else is). And they hate to discover they are. While at least I know that I am profoundly ignorant, and if someone knows more than me, and is happy to teach me, the merrier.

And this only means you are sane and rational, not that you are close-minded. It is not close-minded to not respect what is rationally, logically, factually nonsensical.

an academic sociopath is basically the unethical twit who steals ideas from their grad students, stabs colleagues in the back, extorts sex from co-eds, etc.

I can guarantee first hand the University of Cambridge is packed of such people.

[–]devicerandom -2 points-1 points ago

pale girls are sexy?

I disagree with that (and in fact Stoya, while being very cute, is way too pale to be among my favourite adult stars)

Edit: But well, she's smart, and this is a big turn-on.

How many of you have paid for your meal at a wedding? My gf and I are expected to pay $80-100 each for our meals at an upcoming wedding, the bride says its an "unspoken tradition" by bootsmegamixin AskReddit

[–]devicerandom 2 points3 points ago

I am Italian and if someone marrying would dare to ask guests to pay for their meal, they would be covered in spit in nanoseconds.

Are there any articles or research done into why asians prefer not to get a tan? [for research assignment] by mcartz33in AskReddit

Quite sure, even if here in Italy I know lots of people who prefer pale white skin. I'm all for dark skin however.

Yes, but some languages are less ambiguous than others.

Sure, but language requires some degree of generality, or risk to be exceedingly complex.

Take colours for example: how many words should we have for them? Five? Ten? Fifty? What is "yellow" anyway? Should we ditch words and use hexadecimal codes for them, like HTML :) , to be as clear as possible?
