I HATE the L-shaped return keys! But yeah, the single-line ones are the norm stateside.

Metro 2033 is 75% off today on Steam. What is /r/games opinion on it? by Beanbakerin Games

[–]detroitmatt 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't call it horribly optimized. DX11 was too much for my machine, but I'm able to run it DX10 "Very high" 1440x900 with Phenom II 4x3.0ghz, 4GB ram and a Radeon 5870 and we get along fine. It's a little slow on some sets where they really went crazy with the lighting, but besides that it's fine.

That wasn't clear? I thought they beat you over the head with it a little too much. At least if you read the message boxes that came up when you talked to the vendors in the tutorial station. What I had trouble figuring out is how gas masks worked, and how to read the watch.

Now to figure out how to use IntelliJ's debugger, then. (I'm writing this code as part of teaching myself how to use IntelliJ after having used just Eclipse)... I tried before in the process of debugging this already, but it seemed to just skip past all the breakpoints. Anyway, thanks again.

How difficult would it be for DICE/EA to enable players to modify their loadouts and gun setups online? Helluva way to kill time at work, don't you think? by mmeggersin battlefield3

I don't actually write C++, so I don't know the technical details, that's just something I picked up reading about it. I imagine it must dereference the pointer somewhere along the line. If I understand it correctly, it's basically just like . is for non-pointers. That is,

Foo a, * b;
a = FooFactory.make();
b = &a;
a.foo();
b->foo();

will call foo() on a twice.

Any studio as big as DICE is gonna practice heavy top-down design. No professional starts coding an entire engine/game bottom-up.

Totally depends on their API, both in terms of their own code interfaces and what libraries they're using. If they've encapsulated properly, no refactoring should be necessary. "Require no more, return no less". Assuming they're USING OO, but that's a pretty fair assumption for game dev.

No, * is the dereference operator. -> is the Member Access operator for pointers. Important nomenclatural difference.

Nah, it'll reach equilibrium. The sims don't just pick a new job at random every morning, they re-evaluate and see if they're still at the best option. If they are, they'll stay there.

What you want to do is raise your land values, and start to mix your zones. In your high-wealth RES/COM, rezone a few buildings every few blocks as hIND. When RES or COM are high, begin rezoning a few buildings every few blocks in your IND as RES or COM (As demand dictates). Keep your RES educated and healthy, and the high-wealth part of town will start to encroach on your low-wealth IND, which will create high-tech demand.

50 Years Of Government Spending In 1 Graph by FelixPin modded

I wouldn't call it a mis-representation or distortion as is, but scaled for total spending, and with a line showing GDP, it'd be more useful
