Simple fix, in pseudo,

function show_activies($parent){
    $result = query: select * from activities where parentId = $parent
    echo <ul> or <div> with a left margin
    for each result:
        echo activity[name]
        show_activities(activity[parentId])
    echo </ul/div/whatever>
}

NB: There are better ways but that should do you for now.
