(DSLRs not compacts) How do people start with Nikon instead of Canon? by JDX3DSin photography

[–]dangwhatno 3 points4 points ago

Nikon is also backwards-compatible with lenses, which is how i got onto it. But Nikon has some other advantages over Canon (low light capability being one that comes to mind). Also, in a lot of places, Nikon is more reasonably priced.

Also, for a lot of people, it just depends on what's on sale.

Help me spend my 3800 bucks, please? by murdertrendin photography

if you want great landscapes go full-frame for the sprawling, epic effect (5d or d700). if you want action, the 7d is fastest, and the crop sensor multiplies your focal length by 1.6, which is useful for things at a distance like sports and birds. d700 is also fast, and best in low light (lowest noise). and of course, if you care about video, you gotta go canon.

i guess my point is that you gotta decide what exactly you want to do with the camera most.

7d - fast, good for sports, wildlife, video 5d - full frame, high image quality, video d700 - full frame, high image quality, good in low light, fast

what kinds of pictures do you most want to take?

Solidarity, I'd think. Being one of the current superpowers, the actions of the US affect the entire world. The whole world needs to oppose it.

If we could line up all 22 religions side-by-side, and pick out all the things that they have in common, and throw out all the things that are different,

THAT, i think, is the answer.

"GodBlock is a web filter that blocks religious content. It is targeted at parents and schools who wish to protect their kids from the often violent, sexual, and psychologically harmful material in many holy texts." by Pilebsa[Freethinker]in Freethought

athiesm and free thought aren't the same thing. "I'm right and everybody else is wrong" is as ignorant and unbecoming on you as it is on any religious zealot. if your kids are too young to be exposed to the kind of objectionable content you see in the bible, they're probably too young to be surfing the internet without you around.

if you had a better undertanding of the bible, you could talk to them about it. It never had to be true. It's fables and parables. It's the mouse pulling the thorn out of the lions foot. It's the tortoise and the hare. You shouldn't read them the damn book of revelations but if you don't fight your own ignorance and prejudice then there's no way you can fight it in your children. Raise them to be rational, questioning beings and you won't have to worry about them getting sucked into a gaping pit of lies and deceit while you're not around.

Besides, if you could find me one child under 13 years of age who could comprehend the text of the bible, let alone be interested in it, i'd take back my downvote.

Hey Foodit, I'm getting my very first ever cast iron skillet for my birthday in 1 week, what's the best way to season it... by Rhiein food

i got one pre-seasoned, but you never would have known it. shit still sticks to it. so i seasoned it myself - brushed it with oil and baked it upside down, and shit still stuck to it! i've done this thrice now. so i'm figuring on scraping off all the fake seasoning and trying again with my own - the only cast iron skillet i ever saw that never stuck was my mothers, and all that black shit was worn down with years of steel wooling, which most advise against, but it worked great, so i don't know what to believe anymore.
