Let's make the same "joke" over and over again, minecrafters -- "And they have big noses... hmmm... And this game has tall black guys that steal your shit..." (150|38) by Axolotilein ShitRedditSays

By the time I gave up that subreddit that phase had passed. It's more general immaturity, crappy people, and notch-worship now.

What if Bin Laden had been killed in 2001? by Lord_Summerislein HistoricalWhatIf

[–]cynest 0 points1 point ago

In some ways it depends on how early after 9/11. Basically the sooner he dies the less credibility aq has. At any rate, a quick kill/capture means aq doesn't become the bogeyman it grew into. Iraq is less likely and the war on terror lacks the support that it got by the end.

Please don't use a medical diagnosis as an insult. And if you do, spell it right.

Why TED Is a Massive, Money-Soaked Orgy of Self- Congratulatory Futurism - It has become an exclusive, expensive elite networking experience. Strip away the hype and you're left with a reasonably good video podcast with delusions of grandeur. by JackIsidorein TrueReddit

I wasn't making a point about the talk, rather that the rather obviously manufactured "scandal" might give alternet a bone to pick with ted.

The worst eighth-grade math teacher in New York City by scientologist2in math

[–]cynest 0 points1 point ago

On the HN thread for this article, someone made a very good point about this case: the student's incentives are misaligned with the teacher's. The kids know what high school they are going to, so doing extremely well on the tests means very little to them. There are testing schemes where student results ~= teacher results ie AP tests, but in those cases students have clear positive benefits for scoring well.

Or places south-esque. When there was a piece about my small charter school in the local paper, the caption on the second half was, "school does not have a football team."

(Spoilers all) Leaked audition tape shows a reading of an Edmure Tully scene for Season 3... by feldman10in asoiaf

He engaged when specifically ordered not to by his superior. Robb was right in not telling him; he had nothing to contribute to planning and did not need to know.

Iirc he was specifically informed not to engage but tried to act like a hero. His incompetence is also reinforced throughout asos: see hosters funeral and not noticing the red wedding going on.

Why you shouldn't let up on Blizzard, even if they don't deserve it by ReK_in Games

It's not an exception. It follows all the rules of copyright, however licenses can restrict the uses of the software in ways that go beyond normal copyright. And if you choose not to accept the contract (and thus do not use the software) you are entitled to a refund.

Can you know the details of it without reading it first? If not, it can be thrown out of court pretty easily as it's setup to prevent you from knowing what you agree to.

Except that you have a reasonable expectation of having to agree to a license when buy software; this does not exist when purchasing food. Also, gotcha contracts are unenforceable.

You have a reasonable expectation of having to agree to a EULA to use software and thus can't claim ignorance.

You are responsible for the discs (your method of accessing the software).

End User License Agreement. You own the license, not the game itself. This is a fact of the way commercial software is distributed and shouting at the top of your lungs that it isn't only makes you look ignorant. This irrespective of my or anyone else's view on the matter.

At one point he was my adviser and I've heard numerous stories from him during house dinners. He's great. Also, apparently a few of his grad students helped as well.
