A little bit about weapon damage some people don't know. by adalonusin Diablo

[–]cweaver 0 points1 point ago

If you dual wield, it takes turns using either weapon. So if you have a fire weapon in one hand and an ice weapon in the other hand, the first hit you do will use the fire weapon, the next hit will use the ice weapon, etc.

Yes, the DPS is calculated with those included, so those two weapons would be the same damage.

If this post is right and fire damage does have an 'explode' effect, it might be reasonable to assume that the +7-20 fire damage weapon might hit harder on those explosions. Total speculation until someone does some testing, though.

So, most of your skills do 'X% of weapon damage'. 2-handed weapons have way higher weapon damage, but slower attack speed, so the DPS works out to be the same on skills with no cooldown. But for skills with a cooldown timer (say 10 seconds), it makes a huge difference. No matter how fast or slow your weapons are, you can only hit that attack every 10 seconds. But with the slower 2-handed weapon, the weapon damage is way higher, so you do way more damage when you use that attack.

Recommendation for the reading list by amstandupguyin batman

[–]cweaver[M] 1 point2 points ago

I usually add stuff to the recommended reading list when I hear lots of different people recommending it in various threads, or when someone does a big poll of everyone's favorites, etc.

I personally liked "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader", too, so it's definitely one I'll keep an eye out for to see if enough other people agree with you.

Don't worry, it seems like this question gets asked all the time. Maybe there should be a 'Recommended Riddler' section in the sidebar.

Cut some ventilation holes in the canvas around the bottom edges, cover them with some screens/mesh of some kind?

My personal favorite Riddler appearances were during the time when he was 'reformed' and working as a non-criminal private detective.

Especially the issues of Gotham City Sirens when he showed up.

Opinions on the storywriting? I feel like Blizzard has gone downhill. by zWeApOnzin Diablo

[–]cweaver 0 points1 point ago

That implies that good has always been at a disadvantage against the Evils, and that they faced being wiped out if their enemies worked together.

I don't have a problem believing a setup like that. Evil is always stronger, so Good is at a disadvantage there, but Evil is also inherently selfish and unable to cooperate in any meaningful way, so it cancels it out. Heaven and Hell are therefore eternally stalemated. It's a pretty basic fantasy trope.

the mortals have the ability to be stronger than either side. If that's the case, a lot of things make less sense. If Heaven was always at a disadvantage, why weren't more angels courting humans for aid? ... The same could be said for hell.

Didn't they actually 'turn off' the powers of the Nephelem somehow, because they were worried about exactly that? Neither side wanted the mortals to be more powerful than them. But then in Diablo II the Worldstone was destroyed and the Nephelem are just starting to get their power back (which is where Diablo 3 starts, with you slowly becoming powerful enough to take on anything either side can throw at you).

(full disclosure: I never played any of the previous Diablo games or read any of the lore until about 2 days ago, so I'm piecing this together from what I've read on wikis)

[–]cweaver 5 points6 points ago

My math came up with roughly 9 yards tall for the guy in the center, and he's standing there with his knees bent. Not sure if the barbarian is taller than that guy, either.

But yeah, you're a Nephilim, you're supposed to be a giant.

[–]cweaver 3 points4 points ago

Except you're not looking down from above, you're looking down at an angle, and since the distances on the screen are all helpfully mapped out, you can even figure out what the angle is. I did some shitty back of the envelope math and came up with roughly 9 yards for the height of the guy in the center.

The battle between Batman and the Joker by ehbsmithin batman

[–]cweaver 10 points11 points ago

For Batman not killing the Joker, there are a lot of reasons:

1.) His father was a doctor and taught him to respect human life no matter what. Plus, from the standpoint of a doctor, most of his villains are actually sick, and could conceivably be cured. If the Scarecrow dosed you with fear toxin and you killed someone while thinking they were trying to kill you, should you be held responsible for that?

2.) Gordon has said many times that the Gotham police will look the other way on all the laws that Batman breaks, but they will not let him get away with murder.

3.) Why would he /just/ kill the Joker? I get that he's the most famous bat-enemy, and the one Batman has the most trouble with, but he's hardly the only one who murders people. Victor Zsasz has killed more people, I'm pretty sure. Two-Face once planned to blow up the twin towers. Killer Croc actually eats people, Clayface (depending on which version) melts people horrifyingly or absorbs them, etc, etc. If he's going to start murdering people who pose a threat to the citizens of Gotham, why would he start or end with the Joker?

As far as why the Joker doesn't kill Batman, I wouldn't even say that he has a rule against it. Sure, there are plenty of times where he decides it'd be more fun to kill someone else and let Batman live. Sure, most of the time it seems like he'd rather drive Batman crazy than kill him. But this is the Joker we're talking about, this is a guy whose own memories of his past are multiple choice. His rules and motivations can be completely different every time he shows up. If he wasn't unpredictable, he wouldn't be such a challenge for Batman. Plus if we, as the readers, knew that he would never kill the Batman, then that takes all the fun out of any conflict between them.

Beautiful, #SixSeasonsAndAMovie. Thank you, Community. by bouncingsoulsin community

[–]cweaver 0 points1 point ago

Community has: sharp writing, adorable characters, and really ambitious plotlines.

Parks and Rec has: sharp writing, adorable characters, and fairly mundane plotlines.

Don't get me wrong, Parks and Rec is great, but nearly everything that happens on that show is pretty standard 'office comedy' fare. It's pretty much the same story with Modern Family: really sharp writing, adorable characters, but for the most part all their plotlines are standard family comedy tropes (made more tolerable by the fact that they're usually stuffing three times as many generic plotlines into one episode as a normal sitcom).

So yeah, Community might not be any 'funnier' writing-wise than those other shows, and the characters might not be any better, but you have to give them credit for being WAY more ambitious about where they steal their plots from. Parks and Rec is stealing plots from The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Modern Family is stealing plots from All in the Family, but Community is stealing everything from everywhere, and somehow making it work.
