Guide to buying tickets for first time game goer? by madgrafin wildhockey

[–]curt4074 1 point2 points ago

If you plan on scalping, try and find a pocket schedule so you can check 2 things that they will sell their tickets by. "face value is X" and "section Y is located Z"

The pocket schedule has a mini map of the arena, as well as a breakdown of ticket prices. You're likely to pay over face talking to a scalper since the Wild are playing well right now. It took some hard negotiating for me to get a good price on tickets last season after they were well out of playoff contention, I can't imagine how it's gonna be now.

Will the Wild extend Kyle Brodziak? by AaronGNPin wildhockey

[–]curt4074 1 point2 points ago

I disagree. Brodz has been bounced around and playing on lines he didn't belong on for years. Cullen's struggles last year forced him back on the 2nd line. Brodz is a great bottom 6 center, but he is not a top 6 center. His line is playing well because there are 3 guys on it that are in the roles that suit them best. Brodziak should be re-signed, and I think you're not giving him enough credit attributing this to a contract year.

Really, everything we get this year is gravy. Next year, when Finnish Baby Jesus walks across the Atlantic onto our top line along with the continued maturation of our young defensemen (and maybe a juicy free agent) The Wild will be serious cup contenders. They just gotta find a way to lock up Brodziak, he's way more important that I ever though he'd be.

Remember just a few months ago when we all thought San Jose was absolutely robbing Minnesota? by Gatoroidin hockey

[–]curt4074 4 points5 points ago

I agree Yeo deserves more credit, but let's be real here. The idea of Havlat buying into a defensive minded system like the one Yeo wanted to implement is laughable. Havlat is a floater and does not play good defense. Burns likely wouldn't have been a great fit either (albeit not as big of a deal as Havlat) Burns likes to go coast to coast and it would sometimes cost the wild big on turnovers. Neither of the 2 players the Wild gave up fit well in the current system.

Also, it's important to note that the officer asks him to "release" his ID. He wasn't simply stating "show me"

I find it hard to believe that anyone, especially him couldn't understand the request. Not only did the kid refuse to hand over his ID, he started walking away. Do you think it's logical to walk away from an officer threatening to arrest you? Of course not. The kid escalated the situation at every possible opportunity and made a scene during the arrest.

I am an American and this is not being used to "insane" police behavior. This is in fact, not insane police behavior. The kid wasn't standing up for basic rights he was trying to provoke police officers. I am happy the kid spent the night in jail. Perhaps he will think twice before interrupting a police investigation with a political agenda. If the kid just hands over his ID at step one, none of the steps that follow happen, or if they do he has my full sympathy.

Or he could just do what every other normal person does in such a situation and hand the ID over. The kid was being purposefully obtuse and got the reaction from the cops he desired. If you read his blog, and more about him, he is an activist for precisely these topics. He "poked the bear" so to speak and got what he deserved. Even the ACLU will tell you to pick your battles and comply with stop and identify requests.

Gotta enjoy this ride for as long as it lasts. There will be rough patches ahead, but we're building up a cushion. This is the most fun to watch Wild team that has ever existed IMO. Amazing how well this team has played despite the injuries they've weathered.

Guys I am so excited for our team this year! by Eddie_Shipwreckin wildhockey

[–]curt4074 1 point2 points ago

Baron covers it well, but another big part of the reason Yeo's system is working is that he has a set of forwards willing to play defense. Koivu is probably the best first line center defensively (not the best scorer, but best at the defensive responsibility) in the NHL. This team is winning because the forwards are getting back and clogging lanes.

Bottom line, it's cliche when people say this sometimes, they OUTWORK the other team.

Pakistan says U.S. drones in its air space will be shot down by scientologist2in worldnews

At least recently things have started to improve between the two countries (specifically under the Obama administration). But I do agree, I've never really understood the lack of a solid relationship between the two countries, other than a lack of oil. I really hope the renewed American interest in India is sincere.

If you have one, what's your second favorite team? by mount_vittiin hockey

Became a Sabres fan watching Dominik Hasek before my current #1 team (the Wild) existed. I had a short-lived youth hockey stint as a goalie... used Hasek as my model for goaltending. I think that's why they put me back at wing.

Flashing your ID and handing to a police officer is a completely different situation. The officer could make no determination of whether it was a legit id. In fact, showing it but refusing to hand it over is more suspicious than him not wanting to show it in the first place.

YOu can't just flash your ID to a cop when they ask for it. Stop and Identify requires them to actually examine the ID.

Yes, the cops did not handle the situation well, the kid also handled it poorly.

It's a complicated matter. The failure to comply with stop and identify is not a charge that comes with any formal punishment. Simply the person is arrested, and detained until identification can be made. But what comes from this, is that he opens himself up to a wide variety of charges. There are many laws out there that criminalize obstructing/resisting/delaying a police officer.

After reading his incredibly over the top analysis of the situation (description of video leads to a blog) I found that his eventual charge was interfering with a police investigation. Which in a broad sense his refusal to show his ID eventually led to the investigation being delayed.

Basically the moral of the story is pick your battles. Kid went to jail for a night because he refused to show an ID.
