Huh. Seems like creationist's beliefs aren't ridiculus after all. They just seem believe God is incredibly quick.

The big question, as it seems then. isn't "Is there a God?", but "Why is God in such a hurry?"

German Mannerisms? by kevTheBadgerin germany

[–]cinocu 9 points10 points ago

Don't get me wrong, I also find looking in the eye whilst prost...ing the right way to do it. However during the last decade that mannerism got inexplicaply elevated to a binding rule (here is Germany and its love for rules for you). A rule which comes bundled with a threat of punishment!(something your average German is somehow drawn to too, selfhate and punishment) From time to time, my personal way to address that annoying development is raising my, glass, look out the window and toast: To the next 7 years friends, cheers!

Oh dear Formula1-God in your heavenly cockpit, please take F1 away from RTL. They make a f*%&ing soap opera out of the greatest spectacle in the world .... and a very depressing one indeed.

Last weekend after 30mins watching the RTL broadcast, I was close to climbing on the roof and adjust the sat-dish to get BBC :-(

Suggestion: Every time Vettel says "obviously" in an interview.

Bonus: When somebody else says "obviously" during an interview.

(Did that as only rule for downing a shot while having a few beers during the race. I have no recollection how the BBC forum ended. Haven't been that drunk for a long time. So be careful ;-)

I think you are perfectly right. The root of the problem is the level of social ..well "maturity". Without a stable socio-political situation (be it some kind of working democracy or a capeable dictator) there is no lasting saftety and thus insecurity. Which in turn hinders investments, especially risky long term ones in infrastructure (power, transportation, telecommunication). No development in infrastructure then means no quick development in economy and in turn hinders further development in all other areas.

Of course on can and probably should support sub-saharan nations in all areas, but as long as the root problem doesn't change, the fast development leaps other countries made in the last 20 years will not happen there.

The cost of producing solar energy is dropping so quickly that it could be cheaper than fossil fuels by 2018. by dtrainmcclainin science

I alwaysed considered myself to be pro-nuclear under the circumstances. But what is happening in the solar market really makes me think at the moment.

I mean if solar power does get into the price range of current power plants, and it really looks that way, even in the short run, why keep arguing? It doesn't really matter if desaster risk, pollution, weaponizing potentials and far future reprocessing and storage costs are correctly priced in the kwh.

No but honestly, I was always very critical about setting the whole country on a hail-mary course towards renewable energy, coupled with the phase-out of nuclear power..

But looking at optimistic articles like this today, I am beginning to fear that the treehuggers might have been right.

That course unleashed sush a vast bundle of innovations, process improvements and scale economies I would have never thought possible ten years ago. Quite exciting.

I know that kind of video isn't a big deal anymore today, but what is the motivation to upload, link and watch that stuff? Is there anything other than the exitement of morbid voyeurism?

Considerable? The Germans invented green energy subsidies! Heck, we had the Green Party in power for 8 years.

If going 80% green energy by 2050 turns out not to be a viable option for a modern country we can only hope France will have built enough nucular power for all of us :)

And who exactly is supposed to be bankrupt? Growing inequality might be problem but all in all ...

I don't want to sound cynical here, but since when did spectacular and fatal accidents lessen the attactiveness of motorsport?

Apart from that: I suppose the injury and death rat in professional football is higher than in high level professional motorsport.
