Anyone at r/UofT want to get their hands on a copy of ME3 (with unused multiplayer)? by [deleted]in UofT

Also, there are a number of some-what active game trading / selling subreddits. I believe they are listed somewhere on r/gaming

Later year Computer Science students: What concentration did you pick? by [deleted]in UofT

[–]captain__ 5 points6 points ago

Are you in first year? We can't really specialize anymore. The way I understand it is that you used to be able to get whatever it was - software engineering, AI - written on your degree but now the paths are just suggested. Mostly used if you apply to a job you can say you have taken related courses in x,y, z.

I'm a U of T grad student, TA, and course instructor, and I'm on strike. by bad_jewin UofT

[–]captain__ 3 points4 points ago

What's the strike about? It's not actually about pay.

The strike is fundamentally about the number of hours grad students need to TA.

But don't you need more money to pay for these extra hours? My question is, regardless if it is a higher hourly wage or more money to pay for more TAs out of the unfunded cohort, does the school have the money?

I don't believe Cineplex is a local theatre!

Hey U of T students! crimsonslide has a good idea! by Zaahhin UofT

I don't think we could push this on the UTSU currently. They gave themselves some sneaky bonuses while cutting clubs, there is a piece in the Varsity regarding that.

My ECO100 professor (Furlong) sold a pack of notes for $10 at the start of the year which were detailed and included his previous exams, midterms, and a bunch of practice problem sets. If only more would follow that kind of example.

Is is possible/difficult to switch majors at UofT? by m3s0nych1din UofT

I have a few friends in each. It is possible to achieve/maintain those kinds of marks in your first year, but the Math department is regarded as one of the hardest in the country for Undergrads - or at least that is what they say.

You declare in your second year. You would be admitted into the Faculty of Arts and Science and then can pick your subjects. I know a person who was initially admitted for Art History and just loaded up on Physics and now is in the Astrophysics stream.

The only thing to be cautious is if the program is competitive / restricted entry. Some programs (like International Relations) have high standards / will weed people who they accepted for first year. I was admitted for Computer Science and now am doing a specialist in that alongside a major in Philosophy.

That being said, if you put the work in Monday - Friday you can certainly have a life on the weekends / explore the myriad of stuff there is to do here. Personally, I subscribed to this) idea and did well (3.88). A professor basically said you should be striking a balance between work/relaxing and maximizing whichever side you are focusing on. If your plan is to party then party hard but still have time for studies and focus during that time.

A survey by The Varsity for its upcoming issue: why does U of T suck? by limenocerosin UofT

[–]captain__ 0 points1 point ago

After they are done their program? If they weren't interested, wouldn't they enter the private sector in place of continuing their education/research?

I guess I would weigh contributing to research to be more valuable in any degree as it has a lot of weight to your academic career and also individual marketability.

Most programs are too geared towards research

I don't see the issue with this.

Thanks, I couldn't really find anything else and didn't want to sink some money in a well-marketed yet poor quality book.
