if you have a spare cheap lens you're willing to use, you can make your own. it's not precise, but it does work.

I think that might have been part of the message behind it's design, that the world really has become overcomplicated with things piled up on top of one other. plus it looks amazing.

I'm not sure if you've ever heard of it, but an ornithropter is a device that works on this exact principle (Da vinci came up with the concept i believe). the fabric actually tilts a bit in the flapping process, creating lift and a backward-directed force. So technically, this is just that on a larger scale. whether the electric motors in the pack can produce enough force to lift his entire body is a different question.

We Gave People an iPad 2, Told Them It Was the New iPad, and They Loved It by lamakamain technology

[–]calvindog717 2 points3 points ago

well, we can take the graphics processor as an example if you want. a processor with 4 times the power of it's predecessor could potentially run a game at 4 times the FPS than its predecessor. However, there is a fps threshold (which I feel is around 60-70 fps, others can correct me), beyond which the game will not look any "smoother". A game running at 120fps will not look any better than a game running at 60-70 fps, because our eyes can only see so many images per second.

The same applies to Screens. while the screen on the new ipad may have 4x the resolution of the "old" one, there is also a threshold, where a person's eye can only see that many pixels. Unless you're pressing your face against the new ipads screen all the time, you probably won't see that much of a difference.

Here is a vivid argument against small government (This American Life 459: What Kind of Country) by sdhuin politics

[–]calvindog717 5 points6 points ago

thanks for the link, It was a good listen. I was hoping that maybe the show would mention the arguements hed in washington and in the south about state vs. government power before the civil war, and how the current issues may still be fueled by that. Not saying the south has anything to do with it, but that there is still a large group of people in this country who still want the US to be United States, and not the United States.

Does anyone else find it annoying that the tech news that actually is tech news (like this ) gets fewer upvotes (thus not at the top of the page) than the constant articles about clashes between web companies? I feel like the posts at the top almost don't fit on r/technology.

Maybe you're not in the position to answer this, but what's your opinion of the use of oil sands as fuel? I've always read that it's a very dirty and energy-consuming process to get the oil out of the sand, and that it takes down a lot of forest in the process. is that true?
