What are some fun gifts to send to an SO that are suitable to mail long-distance? by TheBlueOrigamiin LongDistance

[–]calantorntain 2 points3 points ago

I mailed my boyfriend socks a couple weeks ago, because during his last visit he was bemoaning the fact that many of his socks had holes, and on a couple of occasions previous he had commented on how difficult it was to find socks in the style he liked (and he's right! I had to go to 7 stores till I found some!)

So, something thoughtful that helps take care of them, I suppose :)

I saw this in cosmo. Although most of their stuff makes me pretty angry, this just made me sad. :( by ChrisIsKinkyin TwoXChromosomes

This is something that always makes me wish I was a bigger drinker. I drink somewhere between twice a month, and every other month, so giving that up isn't going to help me much :/

Nice. Reminds me of how I got my parents to buy me wires, battery holders, little lights, and switches so I could decorate my doll house.

I was able to get a bank account/cell phone/apartment in Germany a few years back. But I was only there a few months, and Germany probably has a better working relation with the US than most Asian countries.

Plenty of credit/debit cards don't have foreign transaction fees.

What is this madness? I had given up on all shoe stores except Payless and Nordstrom Rack.

Anyone in Chicago? Really need some help/advice by orange520in LongDistance

[–]calantorntain 1 point2 points ago

Chicagoan here.

How long are you visiting? If it's just a weekend, perhaps we could coordinate; I could leave town to visit my boyfriend, and you could borrow my place. My roommates can keep a look out to make sure you aren't a thief ;)

Is there a reason you can't stay with her? If the objection is to sharing a bed, you can get inflatable ones for $15, and just sleep on her floor.

I like them! If they are cheapish, where did you get them?

Don't know why I'm bothering to ask. They probably don't come in size 11 :'(

To those thinking, "But it's all in good fun, you girls need to chill out."

If you are standing too close to someone, and they indicate that it's uncomfortable to them, do you back off, or do you protest that they should just be comfortable with a smaller personal bubble?

Thanks for posting this. Let's keep /r/tall awesome and friendly!

Non-white births outnumber white births for the first time in US by c-foxin science

Let's look at the upside of racism.

Maybe racist, socially conservatives will push for policy that makes it more viable for middle/upper middle class Americans to have offspring. You know, with government mandated maternal/paternal leave, and such.

I was being sarcastic too. By "you" I meant "reddit".

Then I realized some people may take me seriously. So I added the last line.

[–]calantorntain 6 points7 points ago

Don't worry, you can still be racist! You just have to assume that only white people are clever enough to realize that a good career, delayed offspring, and a stable marriage lead to a happy life, and that non-white minorities are too dumb/lazy/whatever it is racists think about minorities to bother with such prerequisites to the cushy life.

But if you do that, I'll make this face at you: ಠ_ಠ

Quote from fawker since he deleted it it was deleted

some people wait on kids until they are financially capable of supporting them

others don't, and end up using the system to support them

guess which demographic has more kids

Some people live in a reality where a baby will ruin their plans of college, a career, graduate school, long term marriage, and retirement

Some people live in a reality where their prospects of college and a good career aren't very bright. Where the chances of landing a stable, loving husband are low. Retirement isn't something you save up for; it's what happens when you can't work any more, and take care of your grandchildren in exchange for support from your own children.

To those in a higher socio-economic class, having a child is ruining. For those who are in a lower socio-economic class, there isn't much to to ruin. Plus you'll have someone to love you unconditionally, and someone who might take care of you in your old age.
