I'd like to think that will be the case too.

Sepp Blatter wants penalty alternative. by bigmanlythreesomein soccer

They should have a set-piece off.

Two spots are marked on either side of the pitch, at the third point, where the set-pieces are to be taken from (teams can choose which side they prefer).

Each team gets to put five players in the box, including the keeper for the defending team. Attacking team can have two players over the ball to deliver, defending team can have a two man wall who aren't allowed to enter the box and join the play once delivery is made.

Ball is delivered (they can shoot if they like), and the play continues until either the attacking team scores or the ball leaves the 18-yard box.

Runs just like a penalty shoot out, five attempts each, then sudden death.

Sorry, more expressing surprise than disbelieving - first I'd heard of it and it sounds like the sort of fact that would have been bandied around a bit.

Premier League club accounts: how in debt are they? by Football_Followerin soccer

How is it possible that in the season after we came 4th, which ensured plenty of our matches shown live, and in which we ran to the CL quarter-finals while finishing 5th, Aston Villa made the same TV money as us, and Everton and Fulham made only slightly less?

Liverpool made 65m in TV money to our 54m that year? How?

I think it was a good call tleaving him off it though - missing one in that situation could have desstroyed him just when he's been looking back to his old self. Gonna be a big year for him next year I fear.

Guidetti does look pretty special. I heard he might be on for a loan to Swansea for the season - couldn't ask for a better place for him to be development-wise.

He only has a year left on his contract?

I don't think he put in a formal request last year, that was a rumour that was denied.

He still has three years left on his contract. He signed a five-year contract four years ago and agreed a two-year extension two years ago.

What the hell is "footballing value"? A completely undefined point of reference that magically makes you right?

Alright, replace Tevez/Dzeko if they go maybe?

I think that might be more an underrating of Goetze though...

I'm sorry but who the fuck cares whether or not Roman spends his own money, or money generated through revenue?

Everybody else who doesn't have a sugardaddy to distort the competition in their favour maybe?

Second, we're only sitting at £92m of debt, while Man United sits at a whopping £308m.

That is literally the whole point of the criticism. You're being allowed to spend all this money without incurring any debt because of the largesse of an angel investor who is not looking to make any of his money back. How is it possible you don't even understand the problem people have with the way your club is run? You've had nearly a decade of this now.

Don't be silly: if results don't go right Liverpool'll never let him stay to see the final five games.

Well as you've just demonstrated very well, literacy doesn't make too much difference if you're also an imbecile.

There's absolutely no reason the play needs to be stopped to enable the use of video technology.

No, that's a system that it would make sense to implement, so obviously they won't be doing that.

Every ten games or so? That would be once every PL weekend.

More like every 100 games or so, if that.

Good news for Parker and Defoe by IAMJesusAMAAin coys

[–]busstopboxer 0 points1 point ago

Taking injections so he can play in a damned friendly is not good news for Parker at all. Hodgson should know what he can do already so leave him out. Sure, it'd be better if he got to play with the team some, but Parker's going to go out there, put himself on the line and end up snapping something and not playing again for six months.

Let the man rest.

Can we just finalize on Vertonghen already? pay the lad he is super!!! by rooskijrin coys

Modric's corners have been awful all season, he rarely beats the man at the front post. VdV's weren't too great either earlier in the season, but in the last couple of months he's been much better - we just haven't had anyone effectively getting on the end of them.

We have too few aerial threats in the first team as it is without having Bale delivering rather than attacking the ball. He needs to be in the box for corners.

I love seeing teams use a bit of creativity with their set pieces - do you remember this one that Argentina scored against England, WC 98? So simple, but so effective.

Seeing it go in almost killed me, but you've got to appreciate a play like that.

Don't forget this is from September 2010 - he's scored another 18 goals for Ajax since this video was put together.

Can you imagine the size of the balls that would be required to try taking a penalty like that in a match? Incredible technique.
