Science v. Engineering: Is this even an argument? by ryankeelerin engineering

[–]bobleplask 1 point2 points ago

My perspective is from project management. There is also a step after engineering, such as construction. After that it is usage of what was built, fixing, then recycling. Etc.

It is all one big line of steps or phases. True, you can not use something that is not built yet, and so the parent-child idea works, but building something useless is pointless and should be avoided at all cost.

What is one statement that you stand by but might get unpleasant reaction from others? by no_front_teethin AskReddit

I do get the impression that a lot of white people in the US claim to be German, Irish, Swedish or what ever country someone 5 generations before them emigrated from. And that is also nonsense to me.

Nature does not have a "way". Gay is one of the million weird things we do that have no sensible explanation in any way, such as wearing a tie or salad tossing.

Protests in general are semi-retarded.

It's the next step in a long line of understanding. They are equal, but not isolated from each other.

Does pickup work the same in different cultures? by [deleted]in askseddit

Without having tried it everywhere I would say yes, but calibration is the key. What you say might differ, but the framework should be the same.

I'm in a very awkward position and I know most redditors will hate me for existing, let alone saying this... But I'm being bullied at school because I'm a Christian. What can I do to cope with this? by tiredbulliedgirlin AskReddit

If things have objective natures and your perception of this is that it is cynical bullshit, then why does it matter?

She needs to learn how to connect with other people who are not exceedingly similar to her (i.e. family or church). That's what I'm saying.

For sure. If the post is real then she should change some things around to make friends, no doubt.

It changes the story from a cry for help to a cynical attempt to manipulate people.

No. It would be correct if the post did affect your life in any way, but it does not. It's just text and at best it makes you think. If that part is manipulation, then hardly any action done by any living entity would be a cynical attempt to manipulate people.

Yes, that is the way she sees it. But as you pointed out it might not be the correct conclusion.

"Everyone" does not hate her. Most don't know her. Some definitely find her weird for several reasons, religious activities in unexpected situations probably being one of them. I'm sure not socializing very much makes her weird as well.

Bottom line is she has no friends, wants to know how to make friends and don't have an idea how to do this. Fake or not - some people are in that situation.

Why is Denis Leary a star while Bill Hicks is unknown? Because there's no cure for cancer.

Basically it is believable. It could happen somewhere.

A bullied kid with no friends suck quite badly at social dynamic and OP then referring to anyone who does not read the bible on the way to school as atheists is not far fetched. Especially at high-school age.

The christian girl theory here is just plain dumb in my opinion. It's like saying all black people are poor.

That said... it could very well be fake, but it's still a believable story. And if the story could actually happen it becomes irrelevant if it is real or fake. It does not change or affect anyone of our lives if it is fake or real. And therefor it is better to treat it as real as it might be real or someone in a similar situation could benefit from it.
