Greyskull LP: question about running and recovery by KGFin weightroom

Go for it and see how it effects your recovery. GSLP is all about experimenting to find whats going to work the best for you.

All my gains, gone. by GinAndFakein Fitness

[–]atromic 0 points1 point ago

At the beginning of the year I went back in the gym after a 7 month break and was devastated to find my strength had completely disappeared. I added 100lbs to my squat in the first month and started hitting PRs a few weeks after that.

I had to do one of these interviews a couple years back for a friend who was going into some sort of government job. He sat me down, told me it was going to be a casual interview, no big deal, then proceeded to grill the hell out of me for an hour straight. He needed exact dates and details for things that happened in elementary school when I was 9 years old. The guy was like a interrogation robot... No reaction, no humor, no emotion at all.

What does his sibling (your mom? dad?) think about this? Is he "that uncle" in your family, or do you all have a very weird family dynamic to begin with?

Brilliant idea. Found this comment from another thread.

Before I head to the doctor... WTF? I had a weird experience lifting. by pabloe168in Fitness

[–]atromic 2 points3 points ago

Not a nutrition issue. I have the same thing happen sometimes and I'm convinced it has to do with breathing/circulation.

[–]atromic 1 point2 points ago

This happens to me sometimes, exclusively when I complete a power clean and have the bar in the rack position. Definitely not a nutrition thing. I would experiment with different breathing patterns and see what works for you. I've found that controlled singles/triples give me an issue, while higher rep sets where I'm gassing don't.

Advice to everyone (and those who are serious about getting stronger and better conditioned in particular): Join a real gym. by edubationin Fitness

I was really fortunate to find a great locally owned gym completely by accident. I'm paying under $30 a month for a huge weight room with tons of beat up iron, 2 power cages, a lifting platform with bumpers and squat stands, plus about any machine/weird bar you could want. The equipment is old, most of the bars are bent, but it has everything I need. Giant's gym in Portland, OR if there are any portlanders out there.

there's no way to track your progress if you're doing a random workout every day.

This is not really true. Most boxes are doing progressive strength programming along with their WODS and will have you test a variety of markers. The box I trained at a while ago regularly had us testing the different lifts with various percentages and rep ranges. We also kept track of bodyweight stuff (how many pullups/squats/burpees/etc in 1 minute), and conditioning (repeating benchmark workouts, 5k rows, 400m run, etc).

Actually, those are the only 2 recipes I've used that call for a home made spice rub. I cook a lot, so most of the time I'll go with pre-made spice rubs to save some time. If you're in the US, go to Marshall's or TJMaxx... They sell great spice rubs for dirt cheap.

Looks great, I'll try this next time I do a pot roast.

This is one I've made a ton of times too:

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

You make the spice rub yourself instead of using barbecue sauce, so its much lower in sugar (and tastier in my opinion). Find a place that sells bulk spices and only buy what you need for the recipe... You'll save a ton compared to buying prepackaged spices from the grocery store.

EDIT: I cook it on low for 8+ hours, pull it, then cook it for another 1-2 hours on low with the pork mixed back into the juices.

I do a modified version of this:

Red Wine Pot Roast with Root Vegetables

Put the bacon (throw it in raw), shallots, garlic, onions, and whatever root vegetables you want (I do sweet potatoes and carrots) in a bed underneath the beef roast.... You probably don't need to use as much veggies as the recipe calls for, I just wing it. Prep everything the night before and stick the whole insert in the fridge. When you get up in the morning take it out, and start it on low... You will have a fall apart tender beef roast ready for you when you're done with work... The potatoes will literary melt in your mouth.

I'm starting Crossfit again on Monday, and I need your advice, fittit. by richi1381in Fitness

[–]atromic 1 point2 points ago*

Get yourself on a program that combines linear progression with crossfit workouts for conditioning.

Crossfit Football is sick but pretty equipment intensive.

The Greyskull LP is what most people are using/recommending in place of SS these days. Slightly lower volume on squats and deads which allows for increased focus on upperbody and/or conditioning (crossfit).

If you want to gain weight, you gotta eat. I wouldn't set yourself a goal like X amount of calories/day, for me that always causes me to overshoot what I need and gain fat. Just eat a lot and dial it back or scale it up depending on how fast you're gaining weight or having noticeable changes in body fat.

[–]atromic -2 points-1 points ago

lol, which crossfitters? Head over to the crossfit boards and you'll see that nearly everyone is doing hybrid 5-3-1, westside, and LP programs.

SS + GOMAD was prescribed just as often as it was here until 70s Big S+C, then Greyskull LP came out.

[–]atromic 11 points12 points ago

Most people here on fittit have no clue about crossfit besides what they've read on various other weight training boards. Every crossfit thread involves parroting the same tired complaints we've heard over and over again... Some of which are flat out untrue, some have a little basis in reality, and almost all are highly dependent on which affiliate you go to.

In my experience, adopting a paleo diet with an "eat until you're full" attitude is one of the easiest and most hassle free ways to lose weight. Counting calories has always been pretty unnecessary for me until my weight stalls.
