If pterodactyls were still around, could they support a human's weight?

anomoly 8 points9 points 4 months ago[-]

Wait a minute, suppose two pterodactyls carried you together.

My mate wanted to know what NSFW meant. I used this to explain it to her. (NSFW)

Did anyone wake up early every Saturday to watch this over Bill Nye?

I loved Beakman's World. Always thought it was seriously underrated by the general public. Though, I have to admit, I had a hard time getting over the original Josie leaving the show.

Boss, the blind cat, slurping up cake crumbs at my birthday party

Maybe I will take a video of it sometime

I'd like to see this. Also, it would be a video with a cat in it and therefore and instant internet sensation.

What's the emergency services number in your country? I think this has the potential to be quite interesting...

Since you beat me to the comment by two minutes, I suppose I'll leave this here for anyone who may not get the reference.

Do you have a weird OCD habit?

anomoly -1 points0 points 4 months ago[-]

OCD compulsions are repetitive behaviors that you feel driven to perform. These repetitive behaviors are meant to prevent or reduce anxiety or distress related to your obsessions.

Source

If you're doing it "for no reason" there's a high probability that you have nothing related to OCD. For example, I always set microwave times and alarms on odd numbers. Why? Not sure, just started doing it one day and now I still do. Odd quirk? Yes. OCD? No.

One of the best Game intros ever.

While it's more on the comedic side, the Tiny Tank intro was always one of my favorites.

A little perspective on the Wikileaks video.

As a fellow Infantryman who spent time overseas, I really wanted to post something like this after watching the video but I couldn't seem to get the words to work for me. This is well said and spot on, thanks for the post.

Men of Reddit - what song(s) make you weep like a widow?

anomoly 1 point2 points 5 months ago[-]

Letters From Home by John Michael Montgomery. My parents would send letters almost daily to me when I was overseas so it hits close to home.

80 years of pop culture video in 3m20s

anomoly 2 points3 points 5 months ago[-]

Thanks a ton for posting this. I saw this a while ago and the 30 Rock clips convinced me to give the series a try. I ended up really liking the show but my memory couldn't recall enough details about this video to find it again.

PETITION: Urge Discovery Communications to Drop Sarah Palin's New Show

Just in case my sarcasm detector isn't broken and you are indeed serious:

I fear you overestimate the American public's ability to detect a persons level of, um, nincompoop-ness. I'm afraid that her being an idiot on TV will only draw a larger crowd of morons who "can, like, totally relate to her"; and that crowd will end up being die hard fans who would in fact support he in 2012

Remember when they showed the war on TV. What happened to that?

anomoly 1 point2 points 5 months ago[-]

I'm sure there is a plethora of reasons that people will point out having to do with politics and/or the state of news reporting in the US; and I'm sure many of them will be spot on. The only thing I feel qualified to comment on has to do with the type of combat going on.

What you see in that video was something that was easy to broadcast. Visible explosions, gunfire, etc, all being recorded from a single location. During my year in Iraq most of the fighting we did was either moving on the road (IEDs & the following firefights) or in urban settings where you were constantly moving from building to building.

The only way I can think of to show stuff like that is to plant a reporter with a unit that is likely to run into combat. From a tactical perspective alone my guess is that it would cause more problems than good.

What is the one Documentary [or a few] which you think if that if everyone watched, the world would be much better off?

King Corn and Super Size Me

Edit: Also, Spirit of the Marathon

Reminds me of a buddy of mine who would always carried a Boba Fett with him whenever we did an airborne operation.

I knew guys in the Army who had shoulders like this. I never understood how they managed to keep a rucksack on their backs.

This was my experience as well. Every time we'd be on a patrol at night and I saw two silhouetted figures walking along holding hands I'd try to convince myself that this time it would be a male and female. It never was.

What odd things did you believe as a child?

anomoly 0 points1 point 5 months ago[-]

I did not bother to inform him that it was a metaphor.

That was actually a valiant act. It's a shame more kids can't be that easy coerced into turning off the television.
