I was raised in a pentecostal home and was involved in all aspects of the church. Youth group leadership, worship teams, bible camps; you name it, I was part of it. That being said, three things lead to the beginning of my "deconversion": The first was realizing that many of the leaders in the church (deacons, pastors, etc) were extremely hypocritical. I was friends with their children and would see how different they acted in the privacy of their homes then when they were in the church. The second step, ironically, started when I began going on missions trips. If you're not familiar with the concept, a missions trip is when a group of religious folks travel somewhere with the intent of converting the local inhabitants to belief system of said religion. I didn't mind the "good work" done on the trips. Things like repairing schools, giving out food to starving people, and helping the local community in whatever ways were needed. We would do this during the day and, all the while, invite the people we were helping to an evening service at the local church. During these services one or two of us "missionaries" would give our "testimony" of how we were saved and what God had done for us in our lives. Over the course of three of these trips I realized that I couldn't come up with a convincing argument for why the people I was talking to should believe in the God that I believed in. That lead to the question, "If I can't convince others to believe in this God, why do I believe in him?" From there on out it was a gradual decline of belief. The final nail in the coffin of religion for me was when I was deployed to Iraq. I saw friends get injured even though churches back home were praying for them, and saw people die even though their religion convinced them that killing me was the right thing to do. A few years after coming home from the deployment a friend pointed me to the works of Dawkins, Dennett, Harris, etc. The comfort I found in the science and logic exceeded what I had ever felt with religion. tl;dr: Hypocrisy, critical thinking and war lead to my "deconversion".

I use an iPod, but I have the [RockBox](http://www.rockbox.org/) firmware running on it instead of the default. If you listen to podcasts I use [gPodder](http://gpodder.org/) as my podcast client and the two work great together.

I'm an IT guy who just took a (hopefully temporary) job working on a auto assembly line because finding work has been a pain and I don't want to be unemployed anymore. I've never worked in an environment like this and, aside from the basic orientation they gave us, I have no idea what to expect.

Does anyone have any insight on what I may be able to expect or advice on how to make the transition from cubicle/office to line work a little easier?

This video was huge on the European MTV station we got when I was in Iraq. Due to the fact that I was part of an all male infantry platoon, this was generally two and half minutes of silent drooling followed by a room full of guys saying some variation of, "I'll be in my bunk".

I rarely use any of the IM programs these days. For the few occasions that I do I set up an account on [Meebo.com](http://www.meebo.com/). I can log in and have all my accounts available from any browser. You can also log into individual IM accounts from the main page without setting up a Meebo account.

Thanks :) The bent bulldog (second from the bottom) is also green, but it's my favorite of the bunch and using it has faded the color a bit. They're both Peterson pipes if you ever wanted to look into getting one.

I started smoking pipes about five years ago during my deployment to Iraq. Since then I haven't touched them except for on a few occasions, and even those were years ago.

Today I was going through some of my old military gear and came across my pipes and I thought I'd share them with you. I think it may be time to start enjoying them again. Now I'm off to find a pipe shop in my area!
