Good IDE? by ChickenHenin cpp

[–]amesolaire 1 point2 points ago

As of VS 2010 the debugger visualizers have built-in support for STL containers (at least std::vector and std::map, not 100% sure about others). There is also supposedly a way to add support for some boost types, though I have not tried that yet. I just found out about it. Should come in quite handy if it works!

For me the answer is the debugger. I can't live without VIM, but every now and then you need a decent debugger. For this reason I use VsVim with Visual Studio.

I don't see Nutrition Data being mentioned. It doesn't scan receipts but other than that it comes pretty close.

Juices are not much better. If the juice is fresh, you get some vitamins and minerals, but, without the fiber in the fruit, sugar-wise they are just as bad. Even worse, because it kinda seems like a health drink and many people tend to drink these liberally. If you're not counting calories - fine, have at it. Otherwise, eat the fruit whole. The fiber in it slows down the absorption of the sugar and prevents the insulin spike.

I've seen this too, but I'm almost certain it concerned only supplemental folic acid. Folate in plants doesn't seem to be an issue.

Not young or attractive enough to be posting pictures. OTOH, if by chance your query is not in jest, combing through r/vegan posters' histories you can easily tell their gender and in many cases quite a bit more.

You are thinking of omega-3. Even if there is any B12 in flax seed and other plants, it is likely nutritionally unavailable. That, of course, doesn't mean that vegan B12 supplements aren't plentiful and easily obtainable.

What is your point? With the same slight of hand you could erase the distinction between Fantasy and all other types of fiction because technically all fiction is, in the end, just fantasy, the product of an author's imagination.

A fourth video has surfaced of the Jerusalem UFO. What do you guys think, still a hoax? by dalixin UFOs

[–]amesolaire 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'll have to hop on the fake bandwagon with this one. Watch it frame by frame (download the video, open with VLC, press E):

  • No motion blur except at the end when the camera supposedly pans up. At night there should be a lot of motion blur when the camera wiggles and zooms in and out.

  • The wiggling looks awfully programmatic and unnatural.

  • The object doesn't pulsate as the one in the first two videos even though it resolves much more clearly. Instead, it looks like a static bitmap.

  • When the flashes occur, notice the brush in front of the cameraman. It should be much more clearly visible because of the increased supply of light. Instead, what you see is brightened up compression artifacts of the poorly lit branches.

An interesting proposition, but I don't think it is all that solid and here's why:

  • City lights don't appear do be moving faster than the background, just differently.

  • In his version, the brightness of the video is turned way up. This means that pixels which were bright but not at saturation are now indistinguishable from the brightest.

  • The city lights are way brighter than the immediate surroundings of the cameraman.

  • It was obviously shot with a relatively cheap camera. Meaning, poorer sensor. To shoot in dark conditions with a weak sensor you need to amplify the signal that comes from the individual pixels. This makes those individual sensing elements, which already receive enough light, saturated and slower to react to change -- you get ghosting.

  • Ghosting coupled with the brightness cut-off in his version (see pt.2) is what I think accounts for the apparently different movement of the city lights.

  • There are at least two other videos of the same event shot with different equipment, from different angles. This still doesn't discount the possibility of the whole thing being an elaborate hoax, but raises the bar significantly and this particular attempt at debunktion does not leave me convinced.

Because it's funny? I'm kidding, although it is funny. It serves as a warning to be vigilant. Most, if not all of us can tell a similar story, especially soon after we started caring and calling ourselves vegan.

Struggling vegetarian about to go back to college where meat is offered in abundance. How can I resist temptation? by Tarmonyin Vegetarianism

[–]amesolaire 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I feel sorry for the misery you're going through. You're not supposed to feel tempted, cravings and all. If you are, you are doing it wrong. Not that you're the only one who does it wrong. In fact, I suspected this misconception of vegetarianism is what's keeping most people from even considering it as a viable alternative. I commend you for trying it despite the difficulties you think you're faced with, but look:

The first thing you're supposed to do is change your attitude towards meat on an instinctive level. For some people this happens on it's own. But most people like me and you are so brainwashed into thinking that meat is delicious, that it takes a small, but non-negligible effort.

Every time you are around meat try convincing yourself that it is quite nasty. Observe the smell, it is quite characteristic, and strip it of the positive labels you've been taught to attach to it since young age. Associate it with something yucky, try to react with "ewww" when you think of or see it. At first it won't be a genuine reaction, but after a while you will start to actually feel that way. At that point, being a vegetarian, and even vegan, will be not only easy, but rather enjoyable.

One other thing. What you're describing above might be a protein craving because of a dietary deficiency. Make sure you eat your beans, tofu and proteins in general.

TL;DR: don't fight it, learn to be disgusted by it.
