What's the worst birthday present you've received? by nannizzlein AskReddit

My grandma knew I loved power rangers as a kid, so she went out of her way to find me all of the coolest power ranger toys one year for my birthday. They were bad ass, I got so much swag... the only problem, it was all of the pink ranger. I was a young boy. Heart broken.

Danzig, in my opinion you are a fantastic song writer because you make pop sensibility look cool. Do you ever wish that misfits had died with you left? As mentioned before, it's ridiculous how wide spread the logo is. Girls use it as a high fashion symbol now.

This is a time of year for reflection on the traditional tenets of our faith, and wonder "WTF were we thinking" by Not_Me_But_A_Friendin atheism

Well again, you're relying on human interpretation for the first two points... there is other parts of the bible that could contradict that.

But before we go any further, I'm not even a practicing Christian, I just believed the meme miss told the story.

But as for god sending himself to earth only to get murdered or whatever, I see it maybe like a CEO going and doing the grunt jobs of his company to see how bad his other employees have it...

Or maybe like a father who takes his children on a camping trip only to realize they're young adults now.

According to the story Jesus didn't choose to have himself sacrificed, humans decided that he was a false god. Part of the beauty of the story is that he forgave us all and accepted that we can be uniquely flawed. It was the first time ever that god has acknowledged that we all make mistakes and if we're sorry about them then we all can go to heaven.

My point is, it's a pretty awesome story if you take the whole theism aspect out of it.

No offense man, but you're being pretty negative and pessimistic over just a story.

Maybe if everyone just calmed down about it religion wouldn't be such a big deal?

Well, according to the bible you don't have to pray to god at all.

Jesus dying is symbolic in that he admitted to God who before was a pretty big dick to everyone in his first book that all humans sin and as long as we repent and are truly sorry and changed everyone should be allowed to go to heaven.

It's actually quite neat because in the first versions of the bible there was no need for churches or clergy. It was simply a process of repentance in your own home.

All of the bad things with Christianty were really man made if you think about it.

Another great way to think about Jesus is when Optimus Prime took the All Spark into his own body and died in Transformers so that the other autobots wouldn't have to suffer.

Hey, in the interest of accurate story telling, Jesus actually didn't know if he would be resurrected. In the garden of gethsemane he actually questioned his sanity and whether or not talking to god was real.

Technically he knew that he was going to be tortured horribly and eventually hung on a cross for hours until he died, so I guess in the story thats where the sacrifice came.

I don't agree with most parts of religion, but I think everyone can appreciate how compelling a story it is that he did that so everyone wouldn't have to suffer that pain later.

TL;DR Jesus questioned his sanity and knew he was going to be horribly tortured before being sacrificed.
