In around 120 years, every person currently alive will be dead, and the earth will be completely populated with people that have not yet been born. What other inevitable facts about the future do you think about? by diddletapflamdiddlein AskReddit

That sounds extremely frustrating. Though, I'm a currently living mortal. What do I know about spectating from beyond the grave?

Colin Powell (R) tells CNN he supports legalizing same-sex marriage by EthicalReasoningin politics

[–]UaTarr 4 points5 points ago

I haven't followed him closely or anything, but I agree that it seems he's not really in the "political game" much anymore, especially enough to run for president. Still, that's interesting information, and I'll pass it along. Thanks!

My dad (a registered Republican) hopes we'll have a President Colin Powell one day. He was hoping for way too long this cycle that Powell would hop in the race.

Penn Jillette Accuses Obama of Class Warfare For Drug Policy by smackisbadin Libertarian

[–]UaTarr 0 points1 point ago

Yeah. Penn is, above all else, a performer and a product of show business. In many ways, that's a good thing. It allows him to make the colorful and humorous rants we know and love. It gives him a wide appeal. However, because there's "something for everyone" it means that no one will like everything. I also thought that "Clay Aiken by Penn Jillette" song was pretty lame, but I've also never watched an episode of Celebrity Apprentice.

Edit: I liked his video series "Penn Point" a lot better. They were short and typically on a single topic. The biggest problem was the obnoxious editing.

If you like Penn, it's a decent podcast. It's pretty funny, but it's not always this political. It's a lot of him just shooting the shit with some circus buddies. He talks a lot about his life, though, and of course he has a great sense of humor. Penn Sunday's School is worth checking out.

Sorry for being yet another high school kid looking for advice but I need help ! by StupidUserNameGuyin LawSchool

[–]UaTarr 2 points3 points ago

I went to an in-state university. I didn't do much in high school, but I worked hard in undergrad. I ended up getting accepted into some great institutions for law school. If you do well on your SAT or ACT, even with a mediocre GPA, you'll get into undergrad somewhere. Work hard there; no one will care what you did in high school anymore. If you're worried, spend extra time working on your applications, but now isn't the time to stress. You'll have plenty of that to do down the road.

As for how to keep "up to date", I'd say keep hanging around forums like this. As you may be able to see from my flair, I'm a 0L. Take everything I say with a grain of salt. I'm sure more knowledgeable people will be in this topic soon enough. I just figured I'd add my two cents while you waited for a more detailed answer from one of the other fine patrons of this subreddit.

Focus on getting into undergrad right now. Sure, maybe keep the idea of law school in the back of your mind and keep up to date with what's going on in the legal world, but you primary focus right now shouldn't be law school.

The B&M shop where I work sold Guayabera shirts with our logo on them that were affectionately known as "The Charlie Sheen" shirt. They sold quite well!

The Acid Blondie is one of the first cigars I ever smoked. It's a decent stick, especially for the price. I can't say that I've tried the others.

Johnson: "Gay Americans deserve better than a President who winks and nods and tries to convince them that he will protect their rights, but refuses to emerge from the closet and support one of the most basic rights – the right to equal access to marriage." by BagOnutsin R3VOLUTION

[–]UaTarr 1 point2 points ago

I wish Johnson would stop using the phrase "out of the closet" so frequently. I believe that he's the best candidate running on the issue of gay rights, but I can see how people may take offense to him using the term "out of the closet" for declaring himself a Libertarian instead of a Republican. Libertarians don't receive nearly as much grief from society for their lifestyle.

What does r/libertarian think of single transferable voting? by gilessandersonin Libertarian

[–]UaTarr 0 points1 point ago

He is not referring to transferring the right to vote from one person to another or selling/buying votes. He's referring to an electoral system.

Another example is /r/cigars. In the FAQ, the health risks of smoking cigars are mentioned, but they don't come up in a majority of the threads posted. It's not taboo to mention; the individuals are aware of the risks, but it's not the aspect of the "hobby" that they enjoy.

It said he sent a late night e-mail to his supporters. It's not like he's trying very hard. I think it's a pretty bitter endorsement.

Even if one were to argue that Federal Reserve Notes don't have real value, I'd say they at least have utility. Just because the government creates a fiat currency does not justify them spending the money of others, no matter how valuable, on a corrupt, abuse-able, or wasteful program.

Comparing Gary Johnson to Past Libertarian Party Nominees - He has the most executive experience and the potential to win votes from conservatives and liberals. by davidreiss666in Libertarian

[–]UaTarr 2 points3 points ago

The Libertarian National Convention selected Judge Jim Gray to be their Vice Presidential nominee at Johnson's request. Furthermore, Rand currently holds a position in the Senate as a Republican. He will have to defend his seat by winning an election in 2016. Not only will he not be a Libertarian candidate this election cycle, it is unlikely he will be a Libertarian candidate in 2016.

I made a post on this sub-reddit a few months ago asking about Gary Johnson schwag. I agree; the stuff on his website isn't very exciting. Here's a site that was linked in that topic: http://www.gopmall.com/collector-items/gary-johnson/

Still pretty underwhelming, unfortunately.

Edit: Also, I'm not familiar with this website (GOP Mall), but I don't see any indication that Johnson's campaign gets any funds from buying off this site.
