Because the first place most students go (in my experience) isn't to either of those sources.

It's a pretty great demonstration of the problems of Wikipedia and the relative value of sources. I've been looking for a way to get that through to my highschoolers, and I think this guy's onto something.

Any predictions/thoughts on Thor II next year? by Fineand_D_Andyin movies

[–]TheGoshDarnedBatman 49 points50 points ago

Thanos leads an assault on Asgard, and boosts the Infinity Gauntlet from Odin's Treasure Room in the process. Thor boots him from Asgard, but cannot recapture the Infinity Gauntlet, leading into the IG story for Avengers 2.

Iron Man "deterrence" by Fitz180in movies

[–]TheGoshDarnedBatman 3 points4 points ago

I look it as growth of Tony Stark, and a kind of cartoonishly broad stroke interpretation of the Dark Knight Principle. In Iron Man 2, Tony believes he can be a deterrent because nobody else has his technology. The point of Hammer/Whiplash in that movie is to let that tech out, and now you have other non-Stark suits and drones. Thus, like Batman, Tony's suit has directly allowed/caused other people to adapt his technology, and caused the villains he was trying to defeat.

After Iron Man 2, he's learned that the principle of deterrence inherently leads to an arms race, and is thus opposed to it.

Man Out of Time. Not only did they reference the title in the Avengers movie, it reexamines Cap's origin in the 40's, and his freezing/thawing. It's done well, the art is great, writing is solid, and it's a great exploration of character. Start here.

Mitt Romney and Bain Capital Represent Everything You Hate About Capitalism by TheGoshDarnedBatmanin politics

[–]TheGoshDarnedBatman[S] 7 points8 points ago

Wasn't a more pure form of capitalism observable in the 1890s? Laissez-faire government allowed business to do whatever they wanted. With a vast labor pool of American immigrants, wages plummeted, factories were death traps, and the economy endured boom-bust cycles with no mechanism for economic crises.

Considering that we have globalized the labor force in the last decades, wouldn't removing that oversight/regulation simply recreate those same working conditions?

From Detroit, MI. Moving to Louisville, KY soon. Some questions about beers in my new location. by tectactoein beer

[–]TheGoshDarnedBatman 1 point2 points ago

I love New Holland, glad to see someone who shares my appreciation. Rest assured, they are plentiful in Kentucky: I live in Northern KY, but they should be available state-wide. Bell's is everywhere, and you can usually get Oberon at grocery stores when it's in-season. KY is a great beer state, be sure to check out Bluegrass Brewing Co and Rivertown Brewing (this one might just be a Northern KY company.)
