This is such a powerful scene--almost verbatim from the book. by [deleted]in movies

[–]ThatThereBear 1 point2 points ago

Oh my god, this scene was the most impressive writing and performance I have seen is some time. If you haven't seen this movie this isn't the only great part of it either.

Amazing, you should look into silk print posters, because I would buy what you got there.

I’m divorced. Should I sell my ex-wife’s $10K diamond ring to buy a motorcycle? by MoxxxyFoxyin AskReddit

[–]ThatThereBear -1 points0 points ago

Going to be the hippy here, the bike won't make you happy. You can't buy happiness. I don't know you or your ex, but I have a feeling that your marriage not working out is in both of your courts and your current train of thought illustrates that. You don't need the bike, not to be happy.

Funny, I thought it was the editing that made the movie sub par to me.

I thought he did a great job. His humor had a little bit of bite to it but he kept it classy.

Hawaii could be the islands spelling out "Forgetting Sera Marshal". Maybe "Into the Wild" for Alaska.

Dialog excerpt - Do you hear distinctive voices? by drsmack1in writing

[–]ThatThereBear 1 point2 points ago

I only had time to read your first selection, but I think you are on the right path towards having characters with voices that move the story forward. Sure to be viable for a novel. You might have a few funny lines, but I am sure you would find them in editing. Story beat wise I don't think you spend enough time in the pre meeting to build up where these parents are coming from together as a couple, and Robert is a little too pissed from the onset to follow him into the disturbing news. He should have a shift in his attitude. The biggest weakness I feel with these pages is that they read like a screenplay that hasn't been formatted. The text between the spoken words is very dry and visual. That is a great thing if this was meant to be a movie, but a novel has so many other things it can get into in such a scene. Dose the dust of the chalk board cause Kim's allergies to act up, or have they replaced the chalk board with a white board which evokes a feeling of melancholy in Robert? There is so much more you can paint here, with how people think, what they notice, what they smell and what they remember. As someone who focuses on scripts for comics and film, one thing you must always do is use your medium wisely.

The producers are usually the writers. Executive Producer in Television is one of the highest levels on the totem pole.

Honest question, works that I am proud of that I have developed through writing and then re writing it to be better. I have two spec pilots and five sketches. I agree that quick writing is hard and can lead to blocks, but it also helps getting the writing done and something to look at and improve. I still have a lot of ideas that I have written into pages, and I know that some of my most beloved projects just need to go onto paper or they might slip through my fingures.

Exactly, a great example. On the comedy end of the spectrum we can see Tina Fey and Dan Harmon.

Second this, TV is a writers medium. You should look at show runners and creators of Telvision shows to find the people who would have the same status as a director of a film. Vince Gilligan and David Simmon are respected auteurs in the medium, and the later never sat in the directors chair. Television directing is mostly shooting what is in the page and telling the actors to speak faster.

Do you have 1:24 to check out my reel? I need feedback! by stratomasterin Filmmakers

Move the opening tracking time laps to the end. It's the best part of your reel, so you want to build up to it.

I like that you went for the standing still thing, but it looks strange when people twitch and they are supposed to be frozen. The narration was nice, melancholy was flirted with if not attained.

Keep it up, do it again and learn something new next time.

P.S. the narrator sounded a lot like Steve Brule.
