Nurse refuses student inhaler during asthma attack (teenager's mother finds him locked inside the nurse's office, unconscious on the floor.) by Sugar_Skullin politics

[–]Sindragon 2 points3 points ago

Most of these procedures are designed to avoid a lawsuit. Having parental consent essentially removes the responsibility from the nurse and the school should complications arise from the provision of medication. The parents have a severely diminished case for litigation because they authorized it.

It's the kind of genius logic that only someone fucked in the head could come up with that says "hey if I don't give medication, this kid can't sue me, so I'll sit and watch him die." What could possibly go wrong with that kind of reasoning?

A Muslim teenager was murdered by her parents for bringing “shame” on her Pakistani-born parents by leading a Western way of life and trying to go on dates with boys in the UK. by douchebag_duryodhanain worldnews

I think an important point to make is that they're not going there out of a "need" for a better life. People who retire to Spain are generally reasonably affluent and able to pay their way. They're not economic migrants.

Yes, in a sense they're going for a better quality of life in terms of weather (because it's simply not geographically possible to achieve the same climate in the UK) but they're not trying to take advantage of the improved welfare or financial security, whilst at the same time shitting on the culture that provides it to them.

0 fucks given, A day after the Japan tsunami a father and son make the best of it. by Microsofttin pics

[–]Sindragon 3 points4 points ago

I bet he had lots of money, and he was a contractor so he got even more money for the clean up/rebuild.

So he gave a fuck then, because he was thinking about the money he would make.

Anyway, for fuck's sake man, it's turn of phrase. Do you go around doing this all the time? I mean if you had a friend that died and received an email saying "his entire family are devastated", would you rush around to their house screaming "I bet there's some distant 3rd cousin somewhere in the family who doesn't care!!!" - Why waste your time being a nitpicking dickwad? I'm pretty sure most people got what I was saying.

Came here to pretty much echo that sentiment. Believe me, as someone who lives in Japan, there wasn't a person in this country who gave zero fucks the day after it happened.

Prison inmates save guard's life by reposts_old_stuffin videos

I see that a lot on reddit, makes me wonder where people pick it up from.

It's just typing things as you would say them. Interestingly, that's pretty much how writing used to be. Before the advent of the printing press (and the resulting widespread duplication of printed material) there was less standardization in spelling, and people often tended to write things as they sounded. Spellings would therefore change based on accent, or just shift over time to keep pace with pronunciation trends.

This also partly explains why we have certain bizarre looking words with letters that seem to have no relation to their actual sound (e.g. "ough" endings and their many variants). Whereas in the past, a spelling could often change to keep up with the spoken language, once it was fixed through printing conventions, the sounds of words continued to evolve but the letter sequence stayed the same, so slowly over time the appearance of words started to lose their connection with how they were actually spoken.

Gordon Ramsay goes undercover, and takes a cooking class. by CplCucumberin videos

[–]Sindragon 1 point2 points ago

I have no idea Aldo Zilli can teach, but to be fair he can cook. I've probably had 2 or 3 of the top five meals in my life at his original restaurant back in the 90s before he joined the celebrity chef circuit. Ramsay wouldn't even bother laughing with this guy if he didn't respect him.

Wall Street employee tries to stop insider trading. Gets fired from job and blackballed from industry. by chesterrileyin politics

[–]Sindragon 0 points1 point ago

I find it woefully naive that we even think we can stop it, or put any laws in place that will do so. Insider trading is essentially the ability for you to print your own money.

It's like leaving a sack full of cash on the side of the street and then forming a line of some of the greediest men in the world to walk past it, and expecting no one to even be tempted because "it's the law". Oh, and beforehand you tell them the chances of being caught, let alone prosecuted are slim.

Yeah, I really felt for the guy when I read the news.

To spend pretty much your entire career and life working side by side with your younger brothers, only to have all three of them all taken at such a relatively young age must be devastating. I guess it just goes to show, all the money and success in the world sometimes aren't enough.

Assange stands 'real chance' of election in Australia by LuckyBdx4in worldnews

not that you should care

You're right there.

I don't particularly care if he runs for office in Australia either. Another cunt joining the political world is hardly a new thing. When his whole house of cards falls apart though, remember this day.

You have some strong feelings about Assange I see. I wonder why?

Because we used to mix in the same circles and no one liked the guy?

I think that he would have also likely been subjected to a lot of stress and pressure

He was a cunt long before wikileaks.

Also...CHARACTER ASSASSINATION!

Absolutely. I won't even deny it.

Well, as they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Given that there's usually at least a minority of people on reddit on hand to call practically anything with any significance "fake" at some point, often getting it absolutely wrong (harassing a woman with cancer because they didn't believe the story ring any bells?), I guess sooner or later lightning has to strike.
