I asked the ladies about it, so why not the men? Guys, what are your thoughts on NoFap? by ShadyStevein AskMen

If getting her ready to have sex is an "ordeal" then something is wrong.

I am very addicted to fapping. It has been 5 hours and I already want to go fap what am i supposed to do when I want to fap just not do it? by upvoterssin NoFap

[–]ShadySteve 0 points1 point ago

When you want to fap, go do something else instead. Simple tricks include working out, could be even as simple as a run or pushups. I heard someone mention brushing your teeth once. A cold shower might clear your mind as well.

Good luck!

As a Christian, I would like to hope that I am going heaven when I die

I could hope in plenty of things without sufficient evidence, but then I would simply feel delusional.

And why not let other people hold onto that hope?

Again, that hope has no real basis of justification. Erase hope for a real justified belief. If you are surprised later, then you can learn how you were wrong and be content with that.

[–]ShadySteve 3 points4 points ago

And for that matter why is ejaculating into a tissue paper in your own hand automatically an addiction and ejaculating into a plastic bag inside a woman's vagina not an addiction?

One act involves two human beings interacting together, the other involves one lonely human being.

Why is masturbating an addiction? Because it essentially becomes a reflex, especially with porn tossed in the mix. Perhaps sex can be addicting, but because of what I mentioned above as long as you are being safe and sticking to limited partnership then I see no harm in this "addiction".

To all: when an atheist justifies derogatory comments about Muslims by appealing to their atheist principles, could it be considered morally equivalent to a religious person who justifies discrimination against homosexuals by appealing to their religion? Disclaimers within! by so_validin DebateReligion

[–]ShadySteve 0 points1 point ago

I see your point. I do not see the two cases in your title to be morally equivalent though, because atheists generally have good reasons for derogatory comments such as this, if you even want to look at it as derogatory. A group gets offended through such a simple act that probably shouldn't, and this group would infringe on our rights through violence in some cases? Of course this should be opposed, though I personally would not condone the actions being taken on May 20th.

Then look at a religious person who appeals to their religion in order to justify being against homosexuals. If they have a god that is truly against homosexuality then they ought to demonstrate said god before using it to define their actions. Otherwise they are just homophobes who ought to hold their tongues.

I would not say "atheist principles" though, it is more like an anti-theist hivemind specifically.

I think I use logic and reason as well, but emotion probably gets tangled in there too somewhere which can be tricky. The things that make your life worth living may be your subjective meaning if you would care to look at it that way!

Ok, so lets say that we are lucky and assign value to our lives because we were able to survive through the process of evolution. 98 percent of species were not so fortunate, but I suppose evolution is the process we were dealt in being born so we have to accept it. On some level it seems cruel, and it is but we can't really argue with the hand that has fed us.

Maybe your meaning can be as simple as breathing in oxygen, something involuntary. That would be the easily meaning to pursue, something that doesn't require any conscious effort! If you lack no meaning to live, why do you live? Because your body simply commands you to do so?

To Atheists and Skeptics: Come over to the dark side! by develdevilin DebateReligion

given how widespread it is and how easily it is produced

Throughought the universe though? I care about life in more of a universal aspect, that we are very lucky to be able to observe and experience it! My life certainly has value, but the lives or other humans and other species has value as well! It took millions of years for it all to develop after all.

I suppose you are right, though perhaps it is instinctive, and to some exte t may be able to be linked to intrinsic value. Or, I might must be drunk haha.

Just my personal opinion that it is in a person's best interest to have some sort of meaning in their life. It could be simple, perhaps your meaning is simple, to live and preproduce as nature would desire you to. Or create your own meaning.

The chemical interactions in your brain lead you to nihilism while mine lead me to humanism. I hope you find some sort of meaning to grab onto.

[–]ShadySteve 4 points5 points ago

I thought you might say that. It is true, nature and life often tend to be cruel. Don't forget that humans can have the will to fight against that tendency though, if they so choose. There are a lot of opportunities out there to do so.

Well if I were not given said tools, or adequate tools I would be dead. I'm not just talking about myself though, I'm talking about everyone. Not just humans either, all life ought to be valued. Biodiversity is an incredible thing that has taken such a long amount of time to develop, it is simply amazing.

Don't you feel fortunate to be on a planet full of life, and would you attach meaning to that fortune?

I don't think that one who would consider themselves a humanist can become a nihilist.

I'm certainly very skeptical about the so-called supernatural but I don't know for sure why people acknowledge it, perhaps it is an off-shoot of confirmation bias but I can't say for sure. I just reject it for the time being unless some other evidence rises up to the surface.

Sure, we are collections of atoms. This thing called life is the greatest example of an emergent property if you ask me. Why not seek to actively defend it? We are so lucky to be living and surviving, so I assign intrinsic value to life. Perhaps it is nihilists that could use a change in perspective?

I enjoyed the parody lyrics and the idea of it originally, but IMO there could be better parody lyrics. Too many of the lyrics are identical to the original, I think there could be better. Overall I enjoyed it though, hope I won't receive too many downvotes for my honest opinion.
