Please tell me I did something right. Really bad dresser trying to improve. by NovaProspectin malefashionadvice

[–]RandomChance 0 points1 point ago

Constructive feedback:

  • I'm not a fan of transparent shirts on a man, outside of a nightclub.
  • I think your pants might be a little long - your getting a lot of horizontal creases along the legs but that might be that...
  • you need to iron those pants. If you want the casual look, throw them in the dryer again afterwords but they just look wrinkled now.
  • I can't comment on your belt because I can't see it
  • I can't comment on the shoes because I can't make out any details in the photo - too dark
  • This one is controversial, but IMHO a man should always have his shirt tucked in if he is trying to make a good impression or is anywhere more formal than the beach or the local dive bar. YMMV as its a bit generational (insert snide remark about younger generation(s) ;) )

Could you critique what I wore to my (relatively informal) prom? by mikybee93in malefashionadvice

[–]RandomChance 0 points1 point ago

They are very fashionable with a grey/blue-grey suit, but its an American and Southern European thing. The British would agree with you.

Could you critique what I wore to my (relatively informal) prom? by mikybee93in malefashionadvice

[–]RandomChance 9 points10 points ago

OK Honest Critique: * This is the biggest... this is a really great bankers outfit, and looks very good for a guy of an age to be going to prom (you don't ever want to see the horrid tux's I went to prom in and even got married in... Oh if I knew then what I know now), but is not really evening wear.

  • your sleeves are too long. you need to be showing 1/4 to 1/2 inch of shirt cuff when your arms are hanging naturally.
  • Vest is too short. Your tie is perfect length, nice knot, good dimple, good match to her outfit, and nice balance to suit, but the vest is just to short and makes it look wonky when it shows it at the bottom.
  • Pants are too tight at upper thighs and crotch. You shouldn't be seeing those horizontal lines.
  • Some might say those pants are to long, but that's a matter of taste. What you have is generous full break - its out of fashion, but acceptable (though helps lend to the "banker" look).
  • Jacket fit is little hard to tell in this picture since its not buttoned
  • The pocket watch just seems like a real affectation, and really pushes it deeper into "banker"look.
  • Pinstripes also say "office" rather than "date night"
  • I was going to say your missing a pocket square, but I don't actually know if you do a pocket square with a lapel flower - both at once might be too busy.
  • However the most important critique came from the lovely young lady there with you - did she like the outfit and think you made a good accessory to her gown? If so, your doing all right ;)

The woman?

The guy on the far left at least doesn't scream color fail from across the room, but I can't tell fit of his outfit in this shot.

Thor vs. The Catholic Church by allenizabethin atheism

[–]RandomChance 0 points1 point ago

This used to be a distinction in the old Marvel RPG.

Thor was immortal, in that he would never die of old age, but could die (One of the defining characterisitcs of the Norse Divinities).

Hercules was Immortal, and would regenerate from composite atoms if necessary. He could be "killed" but not destroyed in a permanent fashion.

Thor vs. The Catholic Church by allenizabethin atheism

[–]RandomChance 0 points1 point ago

I don't know how much credence I give it, but supposedly in Iceland/Greenland the belief in the Norse gods was never totally extinguished.

I'm in a very awkward position and I know most redditors will hate me for existing, let alone saying this... But I'm being bullied at school because I'm a Christian. What can I do to cope with this? by tiredbulliedgirlin AskReddit

[–]RandomChance 2 points3 points ago

Physical abuse is never excusable...

However if you have been getting this all your life it has nothing to do with your faith. Thre is something about you - apearance, size, demeanor, economic backgound, etc that makes you a target. Figure out what that is and see if you cn change it.

your not being persecuted for religion.

I know the general consensus is, "don't wear hats," but can I pull this one off? [will pair with other outfits soon] by merrickxin malefashionadvice

[–]RandomChance 0 points1 point ago

Sans hat: looks like another wanna be.

With hat: Looks like a man. You got no vision.

[–]RandomChance 4 points5 points ago

Please don't present your subjective opinion as fact.

The outfits would not look "better" without a hat, because the hat is as much a part of an outfit as the pants.

Just because you have an issue with hats, doesn't mean he looks better without one.

Good hat, though a little stingy brim for my taste.

Just did a quick google and it looks like Camp Fire USA might be a viable alternative.

The Atheist and the Cub Scouts by silverstreakin atheistparents

[–]RandomChance 0 points1 point ago

Even if they would stop causing the children harm with all the theist crap, I still can't have anything to do with scouts until they drop their policy of discrimination based on sexual orientation.

I really wish they would drop both - I was a scout and really enjoyed it, but both of these are just toi evil to subject my child to.

I honestly have not seen the anti-vax/anti-science nuts here... or not many of them. They seem to get edjumacated as soon as they pop their heads up and either go "OHHHH!!" or leave.

Are there any non-religious arguments against banning same-sex marriage? by PepSupChOthin AskReddit

[–]RandomChance 7 points8 points ago

This was the norm in tibet or nepal (I forget which) for a long time. Not much farmland, so all the sons in a family would marry the same woman and make one family unit - thus no subdividing and re-subdividing of ever diminishing plots of land.

Also has a positive side effect of reducing birth rate when the land can only support a finite population...

I don't know how they dealt with "excess" females... maybe higher mortality rate due to childbirth evened things out?

Why Do I Never See Native American Restaurants/Cuisine? by Cessnateurin AskReddit

[–]RandomChance -1 points0 points ago

Snarky (slightly incorrect answer): Many Mexicans have strongly native acestry - thus if you have eaten at a Mexican restaurant, you have eaten Native American food (This is also why Mexicans should be able to cross the border freely and Anglo's should be kicked the fuck out)

Less snarky answer: If your talking about pre European invasion northern cultures... Its pretty boring. Lots of game meat, leaf and root vegetables, and shellfish/fish on the coasts. None of the "exotic" spices that Europe was getting from Asia.

There is a "Native American" restaurant in the "Native American" Museum in DC if you want to try some.

Am I asking too much of my wife? by ireallysuckatredditin Parenting

[–]RandomChance 9 points10 points ago

The problem is with you. Not your wife. Fix you world view.

You stay home and try to make the house look like you like it WHILE taking care of the child, while she works,

OR pay for a nanny or maid,

OR come to terms with the fact that your expecations are unrealistic regarding state of the house. You have kids, unless you hire a 3rd person it will be a mess.

[–]RandomChance 1 point2 points ago

Yes, yes you are.

Keeping a toddler alive is a full time job that puts you day job, whatever it might be, to shame.

Pick up the house yourself. Why are you slacking?

Congrats! its not a problem, its an opportunity! (and an excuse ;)) Weight gain however is just a PITA when it means you can no longer wear the nifty stuff you got to reward yourself for losing weight.

Shoes are awesome that way - they still love me regardless of 20lb swings.
