My favorite place in the world, the best time of year in northern Wisconsin. by yossarian_diesin wisconsin

Heh, no, there's no snow--hasn't been any all winter in NW Wisconsin. Beautiful spring days now and an early summer on the way.

Pissed off at my Evo 4G, how should I destroy it when I get my new phone? by dzendianin AskReddit

[–]Perfidion 1 point2 points ago

Suspend it from a string in the woods and bash it between a double swinging log trap, shoot what's left, and repeat until satisfied.

Is it possible to be both a masculist and a feminist? by johnw1988in MensRights

Well, advocating for men and women's rights would be one definition of a humanist, but that's specist. Don't be like Jeff.

You can get the originals free on Kindle. I just started them...it's easy to see how an early 20th century kid could fall in love with them.

Ayn Rand's Philosophical Influence on Neo Conservatives and Her Arguments Against Christian Morality by fuzzoin progressive

[–]Perfidion 1 point2 points ago

Loved this part: " “Ayn Rand’s ‘philosophy,’” he [Gore Vidal] wrote, “is nearly perfect in its immorality, which makes the size of her audience all the more ominous and symptomatic as we enter a curious new phase in our society. Moral values are in flux. The muddy depths are being stirred by new monsters and witches from the deep. Trolls walk the American night. Caesars are stirring in the Forum. There are storm warnings ahead.”

I don't think you're fooling yourself. Anybody can find reasonable ways to fit these tools into their life so that they enrich rather than detract. What's the difference in spending an hour on FB and reading and writing a letter or talking on the phone for an hour? Maybe that you can connect with many more people in less time...

The problem with this video is that it presumes that people use FB like the author did: obsessively. I'm sure some do this, but many use it to maintain connections with family and friends living in other parts of the country. I love FB for this. I would miss out on many of the day-to-day moments in the lives of my extended family. Of course, I see them when I can, but it's not something I can regularly manage because of distance, and for me, FB is just another tool to help with this connection. In that sense, I use it just like other tools that do the same thing, be they phone calls, email, or letters.

Mass commmunication, business (especially marketing), writing, writing and more writing. Teach yourself photography; you don't need a college for this.

What do you learn in the military? by Kim_JongUnin AskReddit

[–]Perfidion 1 point2 points ago

I learned that popular culture lies, people are amazingly diverse and just like me, that my service didn't make me special, that poverty can turn people into animals, that the world is very large and very beautiful, to be careful with trust, how to be patient, how to deal with horror, and more than I ever needed to know about drugs.

Am I the only Pro-Walker person here? by areyouapedoin wisconsin

[–]Perfidion 5 points6 points ago

Interesting response. I'm always amazed at the prevalence of the left/right linear model of political thought (your left-of-center phrase). For a centrist, it's probably more like a mutable venn diagram with the voter in the middle and competing political philosophies influencing them to greater or lesser degrees depending on how they are being applied at the time. I believe you're correct in that the center, or core belief of most voters is defined by the american ideal, which may be more uniform than most believe. Politicians like Walker create a greater drift away from center to the point of removing the influence of conservative thought completely, which is too bad since conservatism, like any political philosophy has both good and bad to offer. His is the politics of purity where competing philosophies are not welcomed or allowed to interact on any level with his 'purified' political circle. I agree with you that his model of sanitized politics and his actions are antithetical to more commonly definitions of the american ideal.
