New player. Made a B/U deck for game day. Help me not get rolled and have fun with my first time out! by Oldskool08in magicTCG
[–]NukeMoose 2 points3 points4 points 2 hours ago*
Just a point on your 4/4 flier vs their delver, Vapor Snag is going to ruin your day. This is why creature enchantments aren't played outside of on Hexproof guys or with Grand Abolisher holding down the fort, or lastly, if the play is powerful enough it's worth the risk (A Destiny on Mirran Crusader).
Overall your deck looks good for a first time serious build. It will have a hard time vs tier 1 and tier 2 decks, but most budget/new player decks do.
Try to fit in 2 more Captians and possible find some Geralfs messengers for some of the high mana cost stuff. 90% of games are won with cards that come down in the first 4 turns, and a mana leak or doomblade here or there won't stop Champion>Gather>Mirran>Bladehold or other curves that have been winning standard games for the last year.
Grimgrin and AotD are just too slow to win many games. This makes your Skeletons very suboptimal cards, and the bloodgift demons are also quite slow at getting your gameplan going. Try to fit in more aggressive stuff like Gravecrawler, Blood Artist, High Priest, and Mortarpod.

I'm no pro, but if I'm playtesting I like to actually play out games to see how powerful and consistent my deck is. Only testing good hands is setting you up for failure at a large tournament.
Of course that changes if I'm playing a friendly game, but were specifically talking about playtesting here.
But yeah I think this horse has been beaten to death and I shouldn't be taking his comment so seriously. It's just the way he said it while boasting how awesome he is made me want to falcon punch him.

Right, so why would you walk away from anyone making their best available option? And how can you tell if they made their best play or not if you simply scoop your cards and leave on the spot?
Sometimes you're dealt a shitty hand. And considering that, sometimes you'd rather keep Island, BS, Force, Stoneforge, [anything] rather than go down to 4 cards or one of the many possible scenarios like the above.
What I'm saying is that magic is way too complicated to dumb down to simple rules like "never BS EOT, ever".
[–]NukeMoose 5 points6 points7 points 6 days ago
It may be a bad play most of the time but it will still be the correct play a certain percentage of the time, too. And without finishing the game to know if it was a bad play, quitting a game based on island, EOT brainstorm proves you're an idiot way more than your opponent is.

Came here to point out that guy as being ridiculous. He doesn't even know what they have in their hand or what deck they're playing. He even says "unless you ..." right before that so maybe the guy was Brainstorming using his own stupid guideline.
That guy ruined the video for me.

Can you tell me how to denote foils? I just signed up the other day and could not figure it out for the life of me. Thanks!
Possible to build a reasonable EDH deck out of standard? by wonkifierin magicTCG
[–]NukeMoose 0 points1 point2 points 9 days ago
You can definitely build one and have fun playing it but to win it really depends on how competitive your playgroup is. If you were playing with mine, you wouldn't stand a chance against decks filled with Academy Rector, Natural Order, Yawgmoth's Will, Tooth and Nail, Demonic Tutor and Sol Rings. That's just because older cards are much more powerful than anything in standard.
Hero of Bladehold by killbynightin magicTCG
[–]NukeMoose 1 point2 points3 points 9 days ago
No he was not right. Just because they aren't delcared as attackers (so hellrider won't trigger) doesn't stop them from getting battlecry (because they are still attacking). They come in after the "declare attackers" step which is what hellrider cares about, but you can still Righteous blow them after they come in. It's a very small difference in the definitions of the rules.
Further, if I activate Gideon to make you attack him, your tokens from Hero come in tapped and attacking and can attack me the player because they aren't declared as attackers. They also avoid effects like Ghostly Prison and Propaganda.

During the DKA game day I was forced by a card effect to show my hand... by Silvertwinnin magicTCG
[–]NukeMoose -1 points0 points1 point 12 days ago
I don't understand the hostility as I was agreeing with the poster above and pointing out there are times where it's imperative to not have your hand revealed constantly. I feel like you only read the first 2 sentences of my response.
[–]NukeMoose 0 points1 point2 points 12 days ago
It shouldn't tick you off, as it's advantageous for you to keep your hand hidden even if he knows some cards in it. You aren't constantly reminding them what you have, and if you have draw/filter effects then you give him less information about your hand.
Exactly. And then what if you cast brainstorm? Do you show them that your new cards are crap and you put two of the three you just drew back on top? Heck no, you shuffle your whole hand full of cards and then put two back, making their information much less useful.

It's not a very common strategy, but then again neither is enchantress, aluren, or about 30 other decks you might see at any legacy tournament.
Well it's not traditional reanimator...it's welder reanimator...so of course they'd include red mana.
Omnath's Primal Surge EDH(fixed link) by GhostofEnlilin magicTCG
Yeah that's just the problem I see with the deck's overall strategy as there isn't much in green/artifact noncreature tutors.
Sylvan Library, Sensei's Top and Miri's Guile with as many fetch lands as you can is a start though.
[–]NukeMoose 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
That's most likely but they could be playing MUD or reanimator.
[–]NukeMoose 0 points1 point2 points 13 days ago
How do you find it besides Skyship>Planar Portal>Primal Surge?
EDH: Doubling Season + Tamiyo = instant emblem? by NukeAllTheThingsin magicTCG
[–]NukeMoose 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
He could just cast brainfreeze with all the mana over and over again to empty his pool.
Against an unknown player, you have to fear Welder the most because you don't know what they will do with it. I know exactly what the other 2 are going to do-damage. Fear of the unknown is always more powerful than some damage.
[–]NukeMoose 6 points7 points8 points 13 days ago
It's roughly "give your opponent a card ~30% of the time", while revealing what they have to work with the other ~60%. And if you get 4-8 damage off of your one drop then the 2-3 extra cards they draw will usually be irrelevant.
Quick question about Champion of the Parish by diamonds4lucyin magicTCG
[–]NukeMoose 1 point2 points3 points 15 days ago
Goldnight gives bonuses for any other creature entering the battlefield, so how ever many other creatures return will each get +1+1 that many times.
So if you return 3 Goldnight Commanders and 3 Champions of the Parish, each champion will trigger 5 times (1 for each other human), and each Goldnight will trigger 5 times (1 for each other creature).
[–]NukeMoose 19 points20 points21 points 15 days ago
Not quite. They all enter the battlefield at the same time. If multiples things would trigger, then you get to order the way those abilities trigger in APNAP order.
So even if you bring back 3 Champions, they will all see each other and trigger 2 times and each be 3/3.
A Casual Player's Views on 'Net-Decking' by silentcadencein magicTCG
[–]NukeMoose 7 points8 points9 points 22 days ago
Your comparing good decks vs bad decks (or competitive vs casual), not rogue decks vs netdecks, which is what most of us are talking about here.
Even if you want to play a rogue strategy, you still need to follow basics fundamentals of magic. To extrapolite, you might has well asked "can a pro win with 60 forests?". No they cannot, but that has little to do with the discussion here.
