Over 400 students arrested in Canada during the latest night of mass rallies against tuition fee hikes. Tensions have spiraled after the adoption of a bill that limits students’ rights to freedom of speech, association and assembly by karnovichvaluain worldnews

Does college cost the same as it did 44 years ago? Even besides inflation, there are other factors in the total cost of education.

The increase also isn't applicable to individuals coming from families that make over 100k a year.

So those from wealthier families don't have to deal with this tuition hike?

No, but it is an effect that creeps in over time. If tuition were to remain constant while inflation existed, it would mean that students are paying less over time. This could simply be a long-overdue adjustment.

Is it necessary to bring the LME to a full boil in order to break down the sugars properly, or is a long soak around 180 F as good? by NuclearWookiein Homebrewing

[–]NuclearWookie[S] 0 points1 point ago

you do want to boil your hops with some of the lme though, hop utilization would be way off otherwise.

Really? I would think it would be greater since there's a larger proportion of virgin water for the hops to interact with.

i read below where you say you are working with two 1.5 gallon pots

Sadly, just one...

how are you cooling your wort? just letting it sit in the fermenter with your water addition?

Yeah, it takes about twelve hours of sitting in the tub before it is down to pitching temperature.

Don't break the speed limit and don't carry your weed everywhere.

Ounces of prevention buy pounds of cure. Seriously, if you're going anywhere don't carry anything you can't swallow easily and without fatal effects. When I smoked, I usually walked back from my dealer's place or, if it was early enough, took the bus. If you're driving around, half of your Constitutional rights have already been waived.

Don't carry your pipe with you. Leave the bong at home. Your sweet Volcano has resin all up in it and you can't very well swallow the mouthpiece. If you're going to visit a friend for a smoke session, just put two grams in a small cellophane wrapper and swallow them if you get pulled over.

You pay extra due to economic realities. Firstly, since you live in Hobbitland, which happens to be located on an island on the edge of the world, your internet connection is costlier. Secondly, you know that free health care? What do you think pays for it? Elves?

Obviously, but I am still in the intermediate range. I'm using the Brewer's Best kits, which are partial mash and rely on unhopped LME. However, I am limited by equipment and don't have any vessels that can boil more than 1.5 gallons at a time. So I've been dumping the LME into my fermenter with 1.5 gallons of boiling water and steeping the grains/boiling the hops in a separate batch of 1.5 gallons of water. Ghetto, I know, but it's the best I can do at the tiime.

no, dude, you came in like a hater, so you got dealt with like a hater.

How am I a hater and, if I am, how is that a valid counterargument>

'Fuck you' is two words and elicits hatred, 'nigger' is only one. Therefore, your logic is flawed, just like your general point of view and way of living.

Look at what I wrote in my initial post. You immediately went from that to accusing me of being "corporate sympathizer". It displays a large bias that I think you should confront, at least if you want to consider yourself a thinking individeual.

And it's not irrational to think you didn't read the article, which you didn't, b/c you never related anything to the article, you just focused in on one thing you thought you could pick apart.

I was addressing your childish comment, not the content of the article. Which I did, of course.

Reading the link YOU provided more than justifies a targeted assassination, to me. Those are some serious charges. Having paper U.S. citizenship as a technicality does not grant him the right to plan and prepare for attacks against the U.S.

So, let me get this clear: you think that the right to a trial is an insurmountable burden on the state and that the President should be able to kill US citizens on a whim?

You worded the assassination of a high ranking Alquieda recruiter and planner as, "obama's policy of assassinating civilians and their families without trial."

That's what he did. That's the precedent he set. How is any of that untrue?

You're too hung up on this "history lesson" thing.

Yes, because it was a smug and douchey thing to say.

Breastfeeding [IMG] by telephonecompanyin Libertarian

[–]NuclearWookie 0 points1 point ago

I hardly think that all people in the top 1% got their wealth by lobbying.

So your opinion, which you can't support by anything resembling evidence, is a "history lesson"?

I was explaining what this liberal political cartoonist likely meant because someone asked "why?" Explaining that the "1%" has taken on this meaning in popular culture is hardly advocating for class warfare.

1%- vs. 99% bullshit is by definition class warfare of the most base and juvenile kind.

I wasn't giving a history lesson, I was drawing a parallel saying that people getting butthurt about my explanation of a common idiomatic belief must then also be upset with their history teacher when they talk about things they don't like.

Then you need to express yourself more clearly.

Either you like to play devil's advocate, or you're a corporate sympathizer- either way that makes you suck.

Yes, we can't afford to operate without preconceptions and bias in /r/philosophy!

This is in line with the author of the articles 'Fairness argument' which you no doubt didn't read.

So much irrational hatred in exchange such a small number of words.

Makes me think, if that was allowed

It isn't prohibited. So they're not doing it every though they could get away with it. Doesn't that say something about your preconceptions of "corporations"?

do you also get mad at history lessons?

What part of your tired class warfare constitutes a "history lesson"?

Anwar al-Awlaki is an American citizen. President Obama ordered his assassination unilaterally, without anything resembling a trial. Between the time of the issue of the presidential hit order and the time of al-Awlaki's death, his American family pressed courts to at least hold a trial in absentia for their son, but were ignored. Al-Awlaki's son was also killed in subsequent drone strikes.

During the Bush years, lesser actions would have sparked vigorous protests from the "anti-war" crowd. However, since it was a Democrat that set this precedent there was silence instead.

The thing that bothers me most is that the left doesn't seem to realize that at some point in the future, their party will not be in control. It could be next year. It could be five or nine years from now. But at some point, there will be another evil Republican in office. Do lefties really want him to have the power to extrajudicially execute them?

Chappelle's Show got it right 9 years ago. by thesavantin funny

And Bush deserves blame for that loss of life. However, assassinating US citizens and their families is a line that Bush did not cross. Up until the Obama administration, there was no precedent for a president calling out a hit on a citizen. Now there is, mostly because no one on his side dared to call him out on it.

Slow your roll. I just voted for Paul in my primary last Thursday. I'm not going to be voting for Romney, I'll be voting for Gary Johnson. But when Johnson inevitably loses, I would prefer Romney to Obama.
