Not sure why you would celebrate him stepping down. Romney is also a religious conservative, and while he isn't as extreme right wing as Santorum he still panders to the religious right. Santorum didn't have a chance in hell of winning but he could have weakened or maybe even split the republican party.

Interesting but I'm not sure I really believe it. It's only Fred Seaman's word with no corroborating evidence. Especially since it is in Seaman's financial interest to drum up controversy over Lennon as a way to increase sales of is multiple Lennon biographies. Not saying it's impossible since Lennon wasn't the most ideologically consistant man in the world. Just that this isn't much evidence to go on.

I think people who say this are mistaking the symptom for the disease. People are inherently irrational and the majority of them react negatively to having their personal beliefs challenged. If you somehow were able to instantly wipe all religions of off the face of the earth I'd bet that within twenty years there would be at least a dozen sets of factually baseless and oppressive cultural belief systems that would spring up.
