Being homeschool for most of my life. What was one of the things you lost? by oSpohnin homeschool

[–]MySonIsCaleb 16 points17 points ago

I was homeschooled from age 7 to college age. I had plenty of friends. If a homeschoolers doesn't have friends it isn't because of homeschooling.

When I left the public school, I left a bad education behind. I lost contact with a poor administration. I lost a bad curriculum. I lost overworked teachers. I lost a rigid schedule that didn't allow me to move ahead when I was ready but held me behind with my classmates who were still learning to count.

What is your lame superpower? by weasuLin AskReddit

I have a similar problem. Growing up my mother would always tell me to watch my tone, and my friends would laugh at my sarcasm...but I was being serious. Then when other people were rude/sarcastic I was told that I shouldn't make assumptions like that. So I am still always at fault: if I sounds sarcastic or think someone else sounds sarcastic, I'm not allowed to sound sarcastic nor am I allowed to think others are sarcastic. Is incredibly annoying to have everyone close to me always telling me that I'm wrong. As an adult, I just ignore those who correct me because they are jerks.

With the primary concern of public schools needing alternatives to their obvious failures, I don't e why they should at least try something like this.

My husband and I were public school teachers. I was home schooled growing up but open to every form of education. After teaching though, I realized that public schools are more for babysitting and making sure petty crime doesn't take place during the day when most people are off to work (my principal told me this and I agree). one idea my husband had was to have slightly larger classrooms, about 50 students, but have two teachers assigned to a classroom. One for teaching and one for walking the room and monitoring behavior.

Your idea seems to have a similar touch as his in that the actual educator shouldn't have to monitor behavior. I truly believe that this takes away from every child when Mrs. Smith has to stop teaching for any amount of time to speak to, write up, and send out Scumbag Steve...even if it's the first day. Forget that.

Your idea is at least good enough for a trial group. It certainly can't be worse than our traditional public schools and I think that there would be many homeschoolers who would benefit from the online conference classroom.

*I've never lied to him.

I honestly want him to be able to go out and relax and have fun with his friends or dad or whomever. I just get jealous that I can't go too. I get jealous that when I say "do whatever you want" he wants to go out with other people. It hurts my feelings. but mentioning that isn't going to change his heart just his actions and thus making me feel guilty. The whole situation now seems lose/lose.

I have told him how jealous i get. I don't remember what, if anything, he said.
