You need to use an Old Tom style of gin to really end up with the closest to original recipe. I also find the sour 321 works best for it.

1.5oz Old Tom (Preferribily Haymans) 1oz Fresh Lemon Juice .5oz Simple

Shake, strain into a fresh Highball and top with soda. I like to garnish with a lemon slice and cherry.
