There's ether a lot of cops in the forum, or some Astroturf social media manipulation is going on, or the yuppies who normally go there for restaurant tips really bought the whole evil crustie protester media induced fear.

The general idea behind ARA is to prevent any meeting of fascists so that they can't get organized enough to actually carry out attacks. From the ARA points of unity, "Whenever fascists are organizing or active in public, we're there. We don't believe in ignoring them or staying away from them."

As for heart attacks, that's a risk in any dramatic action. Fear of heart attacks would prevent even civil disobedience and guerrilla theater. You could condemn Michael Moore or The Yes Men with that reasoning.

What about someone with a gun? Well, I often lament that Illinois is the only state with no legal open nor concealed carry for civilians, but in this case it works out in our favor.

JACKSON, Miss. (LNS) — Jackson police chief Pierce addressed the students. “Ladies and gentlemen, we have something to tell you.” He went no further. The police turned and began firing into the crowd of 200 students who had gathered on the campus of Jackson State College, Mississippi’s largest black university. A tape made by local TV recorded more than 30 seconds of uninterrupted gunfire as hundreds of rounds of ammunition were fired through the crowd into an adjacent women’s dormitory, suddenly spotlighted by huge police searchlights.

When the cease-fire order was given, two lay dead and dozens of wounded people lay scattered in front of the dorm and in the lounge inside.

Two dead. Phillip Gibbs, a Jackson State student who was walking with his sister to the dorm, was shot as he was leaving the building with his hands over his head. He died on the way to the hospital. James Green, a senior at nearby Hills High School, returning home from his nighttime job, was killed instantly as he stood across the streets from the dorm.

I guess we have a disagreement over how closely connected you have to be to warrant being stopped by force. To me, anyone who gives money or guns to Nazis that then go on to use these resources to kill or threaten immigrants, people of color, LGBTQ people, women, etc, is responsible for these violent actions and must be stopped. I agree that social or emotional support can get a little fuzzy, but joining a group that engages in this kind of repressive terror is evidence enough for me.

I honestly don't know enough about the details of the Tinley Park 5 to comment on the efficacy of the tactics. When I have a chance, I'll try to learn more, especially because I know some FWs have already donated to their cause.

The US political system operates like a racket or rack and pawl. When the Republicans are in office they move the nation to the right. When the Democrats gain power they lock everything in place until the next Republican victory.

Most of this statement was spot on, but I'm skeptical of the July 4th Philly meeting. The date and location in and of themselves have disturbing jingoistic implications.
