Should play stop if the goalie loses his glove? by hockeymanazin hockey

Doh. You're right. I amended my post.

Should play stop if the goalie loses his glove? by hockeymanazin hockey

From rule 9.5:

When a goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask and his team has possession of the puck, the play shall be stopped immediately to allow the goalkeeper the opportunity to regain his helmet and/or face mask. When the opposing team has possession of the puck, play shall only be stopped if there is no immediate and impending scoring opportunity. This stoppage of play must be made by the Referee. When play is stopped because the goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask, the ensuing face-off shall take place at one of the defending team’s end zone face-off spots.

EDIT: I'll leave this here but the point above was about the stick. My bad.

Actually the glove is technically safety (protective) equipment:

11.1 Goalkeeper’s Equipment - With the exception of skates and stick, all the equipment worn by the goalkeeper must be constructed solely for the purpose of protecting the head or body, and he must not wear any garment or use any contrivance which would give him undue assistance in keeping goal.

Nice lid. I cringe when I see guys in the low end masks. It just doesn't make any logical sense to save $200 at the cost of ear ringing and possible concussion.

So i want to be a goalie. couple questions by kroonin hockeygoalies

Pretty sure they're one size fits all. If you have exceptionally small hands an intermediate size would be ok, but for the rest of us, in theory, any senior glove should do.

Of course, if you're concerned definitely try to get to a hockey shop and try them on for yourself. When they break in they'll loosen up a bit.

The 1400 is just a plastic shell without reinforcement. Take a look at the goaliestore.com message boards -- Lots of stories there that aren't confidence-inspiring. If you're in a low level or roller league it's probably ok but the consensus is to not skimp.

Ambidextrous Street Hockey Equipment? (X-Post from /r/hockey) by dragonblade629in hockeygoalies

[–]Mchamilton 0 points1 point ago

I've never heard of equipment like that. I'd guess it would be better just to pick a side because playing goal is so instinctual, the difference between what you can do with the blocker vs. the trapper. Even 0.2 second delay while your brain sorts it out probably blows the save.

AFAIK, Maria Mountain is the most renouned expert on stretching for goalies. Check youtube, here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS1TcqM9-Xc. Her site is http://hockeytrainingpro.com/

  • I stretch a lot. Then again, mid 40's, it's needed. YMMV.
  • Don't skip on your mask. Avoid the bauer/itech 1400 series. Best bet is a kevlar or fiberglass mask, which probably will set you back $300 or so.
  • Also, read everything on this forum, there's a ton of wisdom buried in there: http://www.goaliestore.com/board/

Look, this was a bonehead move by Clowe. 99 times out of 100 it gets called and the Sharks are on the wrong side of a 5 on 3. He got lucky. We don't need to call in the feds over this.

So what do you propose? Review film of all games for missed calls and assess fines?
