To the guys: when you wolf-whistle at ladies, do you think you're paying them a compliment they should appreciate? by 5minuteconsultin AskReddit

(US) Firearms permits are very easy to get in most states. You'll be surprised when you realize just how many people carry.

The things you listed don't hold a candle to a handgun, and none of it will help if it's more than one person that wants to hurt you.

There is accepted realism within most fictional universes.

There is also accepted leeway in regards to immersion hindering game mechanics being needed.

It is perfectly OK to distinguish between magic being normal in the Diablo world and also commenting on the balance of immersion and realism from a gameplay standpoint.

If it's an integrated video card than that explains it. Mac throttles RAM borrowing by integrated cards. Windows throttles much less.

Just use the partition. No big deal.

I just want to point out, amidst this discussion, that the fact that it is difficult to prevent indoctrination into a a national/multinational culture has no relevance to whether or not you make a choice to indoctrinate them into something you have control over.

Why bring it up?

Showing love to the lost and telling them what the Bible says about sin by WertFigin Christianity

[–]Mazrin 0 points1 point ago*

I compared one temptation with another. Homosexual lust is wrong; homosexual sex is wrong. So is being drunkenly enslaved to a substance like alcohol. So is lying. So is gossip. So is murder. They're all sin. I cannot speak in vague terms about the general sin of the world without also addressing the specific sins of Mazrin and WertFig and whoever else.

The difference is that being a homosexual is not a choice. I understand most people respond to this by saying "Acting on it is, though". I get that. The problem is that this is a problem intrinsically different from the other sins you listed.

Everything else you listed has obvious discernible negative consequences and people will be better off for not doing it. That's a message people can get behind "Don't do bad things."

The issue is that homosexual marriage and intimacy has no discernible negative consequences or negative impacts (any different from hetero marriage and intimacy).

In fact, it's the opposite. Marriage and intimacy is a wonderful and beautiful thing that everyone else not born gay gets to experience. Marriage and intimacy are not suddenly different things when it's between people of the same gender. It becomes sinful, but outside of it being sin there is no difference.

The problem isn't that "sinners find this offensive". That's just a way to brush off an honest concern as though the concern isn't valid or meaningful.

Alcoholism, murder, lying, are sins. They are also bad things. They are also all choices that anyone must avoid.

Homosexual marriage and intimacy are sins. They are beautiful things. They are also choices that only gay people must deal with, because of how they were born.

That difference an issue and needs to be addressed. At the very least I would ask that you acknowledge that they are different.

You made my point very well.

You post was polite, kind, and articulate.

And yet in it it compares wanting to marry and experience intimacy with the people you love to alcoholism.

Your reply, despite it being well spoken, is something a lot of people would find to be abhorrent. That's not your fault. It's not any Christian's fault. The message itself is a problem.

You also demonstrated the other half of my point.

Instead of addressing the fact that this message is a problem for most people, you just kind of brushed it off with some light preaching and didn't really address it as a problem.

That is not a good response to this. Acceptance of homosexuality is going up, not down, and trying to give explanations like the one you gave is not how to address this.

Actually, that's not true.

Both are worthless. Parents are just reciting anecdotes.

There is a distinct lack of citations by anyone on either side of this argument.

You understand kids are different right? I have a friend who's kid has always revered bed time and was fine sleeping alone.

Being a parent doesn't mean you know everything about raising kids. It means you know a little bit about raising your kids.

The issue is that you think rights are more than just a social and legal agreement subject to change.

So you just don't care?

Are you saying you're aware of how poorly your made tour argument, but just don't care, or am I misunderstanding you?

I ask because it doesn't matter how right you are if you aren't capable of forming an argument.

If you concede that you were not arguing effectively than why is he arrogant for not being convinced?

These are sincere questions. I don't have a dog in this fight. Just curious.

[–]Mazrin 6 points7 points ago

That you are arguing at all implies you intend on trying to be convincing.

Is that right or wrong?

If that's right, then everyone telling you that the way you argue is not only unconvincing, but actively impeding your goal of being convincing, then you should care.

Showing love to the lost and telling them what the Bible says about sin by WertFigin Christianity

[–]Mazrin 3 points4 points ago*

The issue isn't the approach. The issue is the content of the message itself. It's a harsh truth but it is something Christianity needs to deal with and not ignore.

A lot of people in this subreddit just say "yeah well we're all sinners", or similar messages. The issue is that this is ignoring the fact that you have a way to experience love and physical intimacy in an OK, non-sinful way, but that gay people don't.

It's not just "everyone sins" or a problem with the approach.

The very message "Under my belief system you will never be able to experience love and intimacy the way everyone else does" is, in itself, an unacceptable message to most people.
