The biggest reason I oppose privatizing prison systems is that it puts a profit motive into keeping those prisons operating and growing, which in turn, those corporations running the prisons can use profits to lobby congress to institute laws favoring their profit margin over the good of the public. (Example: Lobbying the government to increase minimum sentences for non-violent offences in order to maintain a full facility which in turn increases their profits).
