I can't process all the different people in the Fred/Chet/Freeman skit. Can someone make a short video of it with as many actors?

SkyDrive App available now, get your 25GB while its hot! Reducing to 7GB soon. by bagpuss2in microsoft

[–]Lucent 0 points1 point ago

Live Mesh devices view still shows "SkyDrive synced storage" to have a 5 GB maximum. That's what I was hoping would increase to 25 GB and be combined, even if it meant losing that 5 GB.

I totally disagree with his D4 vs D800 "tests don't matter" rant. I couldn't decide which to get until DxOMark released their results. I'd rather have dynamic range and low light performance and was leaning toward the D4 for that reason. I assumed that one larger pixel would do much better than two smaller pixels on the D800. The DxOMark for the D800 let us know that chopping up one photosite into two (generalizing based on overall resolution) has almost no impact, and if you recombine those sites with software, there's no measurable difference between having one large pixel and two small ones, and so it's a much better idea for me to get the D800 and, when necessary, recombine down to half resolution in software to emulate the D4 almost exactly when conditions require it. That's extremely valuable information for making a decision between the cameras and has nothing to do with "pixel peeking" or being a "gearhead."

AT&T 4g in Knoxville by Geturbutlickedin Knoxville

[–]Lucent 2 points3 points ago

The AT&T map still shows no LTE (real 4G) in Knoxville. However AT&T and T-Mobile take liberties in showing the 4G logo when you're in HSPA+ (3.5G) zones.

Automatic paper towel dispensers are designed to discourage you from overusing. Simply tug on the paper towel until you hear a click and the sensor will reset without having to tear off the sheet. by TRAUMAjunkiein LifeProTips

[–]Lucent -3 points-2 points ago

Fuck everyone who pushes the lever/triggers the sensor half a dozen times and wastes huge amounts of paper towels. It seems like everyone does it. That dumbheaded wastefulness annoys me almost as much as people who speed up to red lights.

I have made a low cost interactive whiteboard alternative to a expensive smartboard. by robint91in education

Looks like a good competitor to the smart board. Might want to create a demo video that uses a popular interactive educational resource like ptable.

The real paradox of this situation is you’re under the impression that if you hide your size and can get him to like you first, then he may be able to overlook your weight, which is absolutely not the case for men.

However, the reverse is actually true. A woman is often willing to overlook a guy’s size if he wins her over first. And yet men are up front with all the pictures, figuring women think just like they do, and aren’t ever able to overlook size.

So both sexes get it wrong, figuring the other thinks like they do.

Shuffling Feet: A Black Man’s View of Schroedinger’s Rapist by lisahickeyin Equality

[–]Lucent 3 points4 points ago

It's sick, but that is a lot of dissonance to deal with--going through life every day knowing you're an okay person and at the same time knowing people fear and distrust you. It has to collapse in one direction or the other. Either you're wrong about yourself or they're wrong about you. He chose the former and sugarcoated it with a "care for others."

The Nikon D4 is now official by nsolarzin photography

[–]Lucent 55 points56 points ago

For those of us who e-mailed Nikon every couple years to suggest this feature, it's finally happening:

However shooters using zoom lenses, or worried about camera shake rather than freezing the action, may prefer a minimum shutter speed that relates to the focal length in use, rather than specifying an absolute figure. This has been resolved on the D4, with an Auto ISO system that detects the lens’ focal length. When this is activated by setting the minimum shutter speed to 'Auto', the user can then also bias the program towards using slower shutter speeds and lower ISOs, or faster shutter speeds and higher ISOs, in five steps.
