Raspberry Pi foundation demos 14MP camera module for $35 computer by Drhasinabagamin gadgets

[–]Kraeten 1 point2 points ago

In High School physics, we had machines that would use sonar to measure distance, speed, and acceleration, and a hook to measure mass. I can see the Raspberry Pi getting a nice case with clips on it for peripherals to hook to (as those devices in physics class did) and taking over that application.

Wow. At first, I just thought that this product would be nothing but an enthusiast's plaything, but there's SO much potential!

Old Kazaa code now helps ISPs profit by changing users' data by Kraetenin cyberlaws

[–]Kraeten[S] 5 points6 points ago

This is completely unethical, if not downright illegal. It's not the ISP's responsibility to censor or maintain the web; their sole responsibility is to provide access to it.

Ignoring that it's not their responsibility to interfere with traffic, there's no way the method used for finding infringing files is 100% accurate. There will be many lawsuits to come from this function.

Let's ignore that too. Let's just say it's fine for an ISP to redirect your traffic to the most advantageous site for the ISP, and that it's fine for the ISP to give you a different reply than what you asked for. We now have a massive proxy server. They can censor sites that compete with them, they can censor ideas they don't like, they can censor artistic sites because there's a chance that someone might have once posted an icon that looked too much like a Pac-man. This is not the web I want.

Eben Moglen - Free Software is necessary for Free Media which is necessary for Free Thought [Video] by TheSilentNumberin opensource

1) I disagree with downvotes due to difference of opinion. If it starts or progresses a conversation, it's good by me, so long as that conversation isn't purely memes/puns.

2) I wish I were knowledgeable enough on this kind of history to reply to your comment, but I'm not.

3) Why do the subscribers on this subreddit so rarely comment!? Sure, I learn a lot from the links, but I LOVE hearing other people's input.

TL;DR: I'm a derp, here's an upvote.

He makes me so frustrated at our current system, how we've just let everyone watch us without question or concern. Myself, I've been fine with Facebook and Google for a good long time. I never realized the full consequences of allowing a site to recommend me music, videos or friends.

Recently, I've found DuckDuckGo to be a better search platform than Google, and I've been happy about it. I've fiddled with Ubuntu and learned a thing here and there about Linux, trying to get to a point where I can comfortably remove myself from Windows, and Microsoft in general. Watch the video in the post Why Linux Sucks over in /r/Linux to see a nice presentation on why the average user probably won't switch to Linux any time soon. Myself, I've only got a few small items to go before I can live comfortably in a completely FOSS environment.

Thank you. This "hurr durr there are analogue games/movies" shit just keeps on going, and it pisses me off every time I see it.

Le Sigh. Thanks for that link though, I've heard good things about that video series.

Have you found any study materials for the n10-005? Specifically, I'm looking for a PDF of Sybex's book for that exam. Any leads would be awesome. A friend bought the physical book, so I have access to it, but I'd by far prefer a PDF version.

Firefox 13 beta gets SPDY by rr0hitin opensource

I'm seeing less of a difference between Opera and Firefox with each new release. I'm not complaining either; too many web pages are incompatible with Opera for me to use it casually.

My Uuber-Christian uncle posted this link on Fb, saying "Looks like some kid was just asking for attention and got it." I think the world's changing a lot faster than he imagines it. These stories honestly give me hope. This kind of stuff would have never gone down at my old High School in Ky.

Do your washer and dryer have sensors and monitoring apps, or are you going to run your own hardware through them? Either way it seems like a superfluous and impressive endeavor.
