Certainly. Ultimately the state is supposedly carrying out the will of the people. Personally I find it frightening that people are willing to grant this power to the state, but in many places they do. As you alluded to, it is a reflection on our society at large.

Personally, I'd rather die then spend life in prison. I don't agree that the death penalty equates to justice. I suppose that point is debatable, but the plethora of other arguments against the death penalty negate it. First and foremost, and have a philosophical objection to granting the state the right to kill ANY of her citizens.

The government has a long history of expanding power where it can and abusing the power it has. No slippery slope needed. My biggest concern is that treason is a capital offense. How will we define treason in the future ?

Dude... You are asking me to show you where they spell out the definition of "murder rate" for you.... It's self explainitory. I'm actually unsure what your point is. The data shows that there is no correlation between the death penalty and lower murder rates, and you are arguing what the definition of murder rate is? Basically you have made up your mind on the subject, and will twist reality to continue on believing what you want.

EDIT : people go missing in all states, not just one without the death penalty, so that wouldn't effect the data the way you are purporting to.

They get their data from FBI reports on crime rates... If they were speaking about convictions, they would say conviction rate.

You make repeatedly make assumptions based on your own prejudices, mistaking them for facts. It's clear that you have a world view that you desperately want to protect, and view the world a way which allows you to do so. In short, you are what you are accusing others to be.

Example : calling the comedian in question a "liberal with no sense of humor ". This guy gives a reasonable explanation for his opinion, and you dismiss it because he is a liberal, therefore he can't POSSIBLY be motivated by anything else then blind ideology.
