Help choosing graphics card for desktop computer.... what are the differences between the various Radeon HD 7750 cards? by iowaBMEin hardware

[–]HawnSolo 0 points1 point ago

Ostensibly nothing, though clock speeds may vary. However, it is important to note that it's up to the OEM to pick the components (VRAM, VRMs, PCB, etc) they use for the card, and can sometimes result in a better or worse product than its competitors (in reliability and potential, not speed, excepting cases where an OEM chooses to, say, slap on an extra gig of RAM onto a certain card).

OEMs also have some control over the BIOS used on the card. This can have a few effects and usually done to tweak clock speeds. I know for my flavor of 5850, the voltage is locked to every OCing utility except Sapphire's own Trixx. Your mileage may vary.

There's also the connectivity of the card. It's not unusual to find display out in a different config than dual DVI and S-Video nowadays. Various manufacturers opt to put varying amounts of HDMI and [Mini-]DisplayPort on their cards, so you'll want to check that out and see which config suits you best.

I'd do some more hunting and figure out if there are any quirks or advantages about those specific cards brought on by the OEM's component choice and other decisions if I were you.

Coworker scolding underage drinkers at our bar. by HeyBudHesselin funny

The only visible effect? The raise in drinking age has led to fewer drunk driving collisions. There are a few studies on this. Have one:

The ultimate irony. It's kind of astounding how people completely miss bigger concepts like that, as if being distracted by your cell phone is better than being distracted by alcohol, or that being under the influence is the only way to lose control of your vehicle or diminish your attention to the road...

Well, there goes driving entirely. That's pretty risky by itself, all things considered.

Well, there are the flechette and slug rounds which have better range, but aren't quite as face-raping as buckshot.

Handheld Gamecube by suitificin gaming

[–]HawnSolo 1 point2 points ago

Dolphin runs just fine on mid-range laptop i5s. In fact, I'd wager it'd run pretty nicely with the Ivy Bridge laptop CPUs, and even newer AMD APUs. Sure, it's not 60FPS buttery smooth all the time (a lot of the time games run beautifully, though), but like you said, PPC emulation on x86 isn't perfect yet.

Of course, PPC emulation on ARM is something I know nothing about, so I won't dare contest you there.

Handheld Gamecube by suitificin gaming

I've been nostalgia-ing for some GameCube classics for a while now, but haven't had the time to sit down with my beloved 'cube. What I have been able to do is carry an Xbox 360 controller with my laptop wherever I bring it, and play gamecube games (and some wii games) in Dolphin with it.

There are also the cases where the original source of fire is no longer there, but the suppression is, making engagements after the fact a total crapshoot because rounds are being sent every which way.

That gets irritating quick, much more than having to keep your calm and control your fire.

You know, I think you should be able to do that, but if you let someone with a shotgun sneak up on you or otherwise gain a positional advantage on you, you shouldn't be able to instantly wreck their accuracy and win that engagement.

Likewise, if someone is dumb enough to try to engage with buckshot at range, they should get suppressed and promptly get their face shot off by your LMG. Additionally, if they suppress you, you should be able to fight back a bit unless you've let them get very close.

DICE is making sure that this game doesn't turn into Halo where a guy jumping through the air can still make across the map headshots with a pistol.

I think they've done that already, but the issue is not so much about realism so much as DICE buffing suppression to the point that it's not conducive to good gameplay.
