Duh. The point is that only people who really like smoking the female plant give a shit about making paper out of the male plant. The reason is obviously not because the paper is better, but because it's a (convoluted) path to legalization of the female, or at least an easier way to hide a grow op. It's not completely off the wall and I'm not against hemp, but as a college kid and 20-something stoner of the nineties I grew very weary of the pro-hemp movement. Every year a new batch of freshmen proclaim the wonders of hemp as if they discovered some new frontier.

The saying of bless you, or whatever variation, after a sneeze. It's not the religious aspect of it at all either - though it's all based on a stupid superstition. I "god damn" all the time, no reason I can't bless people. I just don't get why that particular function warrants action on my part. People cough, yawn, burp, fart, stomach growls, joints poppin, throat clearing all day long and it's ignored but one little sneeze and it's a fight to see who can say "bless you" first.

People will do it anywhere, anytime. Even in a movie theater, a setting where most people obey the silence rule, if someone sneezes, someone else will mumble "bless you" What the fuck is with that? It's so pointless.

And then you've got the multi-sneezers. Someone sneezes 3 times and I gotta say it for each one? Or stop what I'm doing until I sense the appropriate end of the sneeze episode? Just holding on while they sit there, mouth agape, staring at a light fixture. Hurry it up so I can bless you and get on with my life!

Ever work next to someone with a cold? You'll be saying that shit 27 times a day for 3 days straight. And allergies... fuck that. I don't have time for that during spring. It needs to go away. They posted this "Our poor operator is inundated with calls where people are yelling and screaming obscenities before she can even tell them that we are not the right dealership! and our server is clogged with very MEAN and NASTY emails."

Sounds like enough to state they have "been harassed all day" so I thought I'd do a little PSA and let people reading this thread know that the first result is the wrong place in case anyone was thinking of doing something like that. So if you google the business name in question, the first result and the first facebook result are NOT the dealership in question. They have no connection whatsoever to this but have been harassed all day. I don't think it came from here, based on submission times and when they first acknowledged it on facebook, but just in case anyone here was getting their pitchforks ready, make sure you at least have the right people.

While donating a kidney was an incredibly generous thing, no company would consider it a free pass for poor performance.

As someone who had a kidney removed in his thirties, I know both how painful the surgery and recovery are, and also the fear that comes with only having one kidney. The body functions fine with only one, but you just lost a spare part and you've lost the ability to give that to family or a different friend. You've played a card that you an never play again. It's a big fucking deal.

If someone donated their kidney to me and put themselves in that position, not only could they never be fired, but I'd probably change the mission statement to say something like "Our mission is to make sure Debbie has a job, and then to make quality blahs blah blah..." Even if she slacked and sucked, who cares? Think of everyplace you've worked and there's always at least one useless person getting a paycheck, right? Most didn't give up an organ. She can slide - it'll be alright.

Besides, she's complaining about overtime so she's hourly, thus probably not sales, and she's probably not a manager. Shit, even if she was being disruptive I'd just find some work-from-home stuff for her.

If someone complains "How come Debbie comes in late and you don't say anything?" "Uh, she gave me a kidney... so I could live... so basically at that point you make your own hours."

I guess I didn't see it that way. I thought the ship was emptied of Imperials for a moment and the good guys popped out of the compartments. I don't remember the dialog exactly but there was something of an "All clear?" thing going on. At that point they have no stormtrooper uniforms.

They came up with a plan in the time before the scanning crew arrived. Once the scanning crew got on board, that crew was the only Imperial personnel on board. They get thumped and then Han calls down for the troopers on guard to give them a hand. The two troopers head up, get shot, and get their uniforms stolen. Now we have the two stolen uniforms and the only other Imperials on board are the scanner guys.

The next thing that happens is the control room guy says "TK421, why aren't you at your post?" and who I thought was Luke comes down the ramp and taps his helmet, indicating a bad transmitter, because he doesn't want to talk and blow his cover. The fact that he knows where to look is either a plot hole or evidence that my version is incorrect.

Control room guy starts to step out and gets ambushed by Han and Chewy. Luke runs in a few seconds later, reinforcing that he was out by the ship, or somewhere anyway, while Han and Chewy were setting to pounce on whoever opened the door. Can't remember if we could see where Ben and the droids are at this point but they must be close because they end up in the room with them, but that doesn't matter.

So even once I accept the theory that there was a secret way to get a wookie off the Falcon, I don't get why Luke would have stayed slightly behind to play off a bad transmitter. If it isn't Luke pretending to be TK421, how did they leave a full uniformed stormtrooper with a blaster behind on the ship and still have 2 uniforms/blaster to play with on their own - where did he come from and why would they let him live? He knows their description and all that. If it is Luke, in the 3 seconds from tapping his helmet to following in behind Han and all them, he ran from the ramp of a freshly captured ship and up at least one level and no one gave a shit? He's fast.

For the first one - OK, if you say so. Not sure how long it took to get to Alderan but it seemed like hours at most. Maybe he had time to mourn but that still doesn't explain how Ben became a father figure to Luke over the course of a (very bad) day because he taught him some lightsaber tricks.

For the second - I don't think you understood my issue with the scene. They lured up the guards at the entrance ramp and took their uniforms. I got that. But then how did all of them get to the doorway to the guards room a few seconds later. How did Chewy just waltz off the ship without being seen? I guess the droids could blend in but Ben and Chewy weren't wearing disguises and the concept of pretending that Chewy is their prisoner didn't happen until they were already off the ship. Remember Chewy wasn't even fond of the idea.

I rewatched Star Wars the other day and a couple of things stuck out that never occured to me before:

The timeline from seeing his Aunt and Uncle slaughtered to escaping the Death Star was one day, right? Find Ben, talk about Dad, find slaughtered family, go to Mos Eisley, go to Alderan that isn't there, get sucked into the DS and escape all in a couple of hours. OK fine. So now Luke is severely distraught over the loss of Ben Kenobi, a guy he's been hanging out with for almost a day and didn't know much of otherwise, and so far all he's done is gotten him into some pretty deep shit. I don't buy it. Sure, he could be a little sad, but he's seen a lot of bad stuff that day and for a farm boy he should have some PTSD at this point, but instead he's all "I just wish Ben were here" - Why? So he could get you roped up in more shit? What about your Aunt and Uncle that you know just got burned alive and you saw the bodies. Maybe they were assholes, but they raised you - you wouldn't just be like "Oh well, fuck 'em..."
Luke, Ben, the droids, Chewy hide out on the Millennium Falcon after being sucked in by the tractor beam. The lure some Stormtroopers up and steal 2 of their uniforms. Whichever one is TK421 acts like his headset doesn't work and ONE GUY takes his eyes of the ship, then -poof- a second later all five are in a doorway quite a bit more than a couple of feet away. How did they get there? Did they do the little roadie crouch-walk and no one noticed?

But the point is you need to compare your effective tax rate to Mitt's effective tax rate before you have anything valid, and you're not doing that. FICA is a tax, like you said, but it's not part of Mitt's 14% so it doesn't make sense to include your FICO liability in a comparison to his fed only tax liability.

Yeah but only some of your 30% is federal tax, not counting FICO, not counting state, not counting whatever else your area deducts. Fed to Fed is what we're talking about.

Apples and oranges. You have an effective federal tax rate, and I'm sure it's not 30% - probably 15-16% at most. Mitt has an effective federal tax rate of 14%. Now while 30% of your gross may disappear in taxes, that's not what people are talking about when they refer to Mitt's 14%.

The effective tax rate is only what specifically goes to "Federal Tax" and does not include FICA, State, or any other taxes - so no SS, no medicare, just the specific line item under "Federal Tax". The reason no one cares about FICA is there are no deductions against it - it just is. But with Federal tax, rich people have all sorts of deductions that don't apply to poor people, capital gains apply differently and stuff like that so that me with my $175k (with the wife) income don't really get a lot of deductions because only one house, no businesses, no write offs, etc and end up paying about 16% effective rate. which is up by 2% over last year because we made more money, yet Mitt is paying only 14% when he theoretically should be in the upper levels but he has played funny with his money and gotten a better deal than the middle class, but not by 16%.
