What did school teach you that was blatantly false once you researched it on the Internet? by peetssin AskReddit

If it's not obvious, however... I remember somebody giving the Germa Secretary of Defense a few extra first names there, a big magazine (Der Spiegel?) used them, then that article was used as proof on the Wikipedia page.

Single birds are always excited and eager towards you because they're really social, but you are their only thing close to a friend. Never keep a single bird.

Where would you go to get bloodstains out of your feathers?

From Occupy Frankfurt. The German police took off their helmets and marched with the protest clearing the way for them. by rusty_blumpkinin pics

[–]Gortos 2 points3 points ago

... When was the last time you were at a May Day protest, especially in Berlin? I think Hamburg had a few burning cars, thrown stones and arrests this year - but Berlin, don't recall anything like that.

On top of that, if people light cars on fire, demolish stuff and assault policemen, what's an appropriate response? Take off your helmet and help them?

I'm all in favour of a JJ subreddit as opposed to having her on /r/videos every other day.

Er, I just thought Hacket or EDI had confined you. For Garrus' safety or something.

I found it enjoyable (aliens aren't much more stupid than ancient artefacts of doom or mind-controlling Indian hearteaters).

Is Enterprise canon? Because they have huge warships there (compared to the NX-01) and are at war with the Andorians.

On that note, I can understand that Hermione taught herself French... But honestly, how do they know anything beyond simple Math and English from basic school, like foreign languages? Hogwarts doesn't have those.

It depends - they heat it up, and by heating up one side, you can alter its course, making it miss Earth. But you'd need quite some time for that to work.

To the stars on the wings of a pig. We're earthbound animals aspiring so much more than that, hence, winged pigs.

See, that's why I like reddit. I can make a joke in Latin and people will understand it. If I made this joke anywhere in real life, I'd just get weird looks.

It is a submission thing. You know, walk on them, lowest part of the body, somewhat smelly if kept in shoes and socks for a day... I don't like it personally, but to my understanding, it's a submission thing.

Reddit, a patch is coming out for the human race as a whole. What fixes would you like to be included in this update? by siborg51in AskReddit

[–]Gortos 0 points1 point ago

Fixed old stats that were still left from the "hunter-gatherer" update, brain now better able to deal with mathematics, modern science and technology and scientific understanding of the world, isn't subconsciously focused on hunting deer and fighting other humans all the time.

I seriously hate that show. "Here, look at this case! This person is evil! Throw rocks! No, of course this is not like a real court where everybody's rights are important, it's just a way for people to watch it and go all "Yeah, deserved that!" and feel righteous.

In around 120 years, every person currently alive will be dead, and the earth will be completely populated with people that have not yet been born. What other inevitable facts about the future do you think about? by diddletapflamdiddlein AskReddit

[–]Gortos 0 points1 point ago

Human brains are made to hunt deer, fight and know good from bad plants to eat - but mainly to communicate and keep the tribe together. We have already used those to go to space and build computers, the knowledge humanity has assembled is already so vast that we all can only learn tiny parts with much effort. To put it differently, we have been overclocking the same hardware for millenia and the old thing can't take much more. Natural evolution is too slow for our progress.

Which means, either our progress will have to slow down at some point, or we have to change ourselves to be able to keep up. Maybe we will build Artificial Intelligences or network our brains together - because that's what we have been doing, improve communication, exchange thoughts, tackle big issues by using lots of brains at once, communicating as closely as possible.

Maybe humanity's future lies in the internet, where thoughts flow at the speed of light to billions of other brains, who can help by improving, expanding and further processing them. We're on reddit, which might be a glimpse of our future - no leaders are neccessary (moderators act more like an immune system), individuals act like brain cells in thinking up big things (in productive subreddits, at least :P), providing new thoughts and judging/expending the thoughts of others. Maybe that's where most of humanity is headed, a big hivemind without the loss of individual will (-> No Borg). I don't know.

Either way, humans will not stay the same in the next centuries, they will have to change eventually.
